Previously, when on the phone, would be able to turn on the touchscreen (without having to slide out they keyboard) by pressing the on/off button on the upper right-hand side of the Droid. Since getting the 'mandatory' upgrade to 2.3.3 (build 4.5.1_57_D2G-38), I am unable to turn the touchscreen on while on a call unless I open the keyboard. This is NOT very handy---especially when one is calling their bank and needs to enter in their account number...cannot do this if I cannot even turn the touchscreen back ON!
PLEASE HELP!

So after calling Verizon Wireless 2 separate times (and promised a callback that didn't happen) I may have found a very temporary solution.
I originally had my display set to Auto-Rotate. When I disabled the Display Auto-Rotate, this seemed to resolve my issue but only temporarily (it worked for a few hours where I was able to turn the touchscreen on and off while on a call WITHOUT having to slide out my keyboard).
Now, when I want to use my phone & make sure the touchscreen will work when on a call, I first turn ON the auto-rotate, exit out of the settings, then go back in, disable it & then it's OK for a few hours.
This is NOT a permanent fix-----hopefully someone can tell me what is up & how to fix it permanently. I refuse to accept that I need to restore the factory settings-especially where tech support isn't sure if that will even fix this issue.

I am having the same problem since the upgrade, so thanks for the tip about turning the auto-rotate on and off.
Not only does the touchscreen not work when I want it to, I am also having a problem with it working when I DON'T want it to. When I am on a call and have the phone against my ear, I have conferenced people in, put the phone on mute, and ended calls all without intending to. I am aware of the light sensor and am careful not to move the phone around too much. Short of putting a little hat on it to make sure the light is blocked, I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?
