Cell tracking of non Droid Phones

Is there a way for my HTC to track my daughter's LG Cosmos Touch, without a monthly fee?  I just want locations, not message content, or anything like that.

I would think there is not an option.  I see stalkers having a field day with such a free option.

It all Depends if she has a phone with google maps or Latitude an a gps if so yes u can see her location an she can see yours:

how this works since ur phone has gps an ur a google member u just sign up with latitude and were ur friends are: if her phone has Gps an shes also a google member u type in her google user Id or email accept the terms it should show her on your phone. an on the map

she needs to do the same thing on her phone so she can see u on her phone an it all depends on how good her gps is on her phone an yours as well as it might be a little off but not bad but give this a try an see how it works for u one thing to note if she turns off her gps u wont be able to see were she is; good luck too ya  :smileyhappy:

One other thing u can try  is surprise her with a android phone i bet  shed be happy if she had one!!!!   :smileyvery-happy:

I wanted to add one more thing if u want to know were she is sir u can go to the google market tap ur search an say parent Tracking and it will bring up gps parent tracking results and i seen one that says #1 Gps tracker give that one a try . an again good luck to ya.

Her phone does not show me Google Maps or Latitude.  My phone does have them both.  I'm certain that if Uncle Sam wanted to know where her phone is, they could get it done in about a second.  Why a parent can't seems strange.

I also have looked at some apps on my phone, and many say they can track any GPS phone.  What they mean, is any GPS phone that can download and run their app as well.  I don't see how to do so, on these Cosmos phones.

As for getting my daughter a Driod, yeah, sure...  I'm not financially prepared for that cell bill...

Does anyone know how to get these kinds of apps onto a non-Droid phone?  I do see a Mobile Web Icon and a VZ Navigator Icon.  I can't even see how I could Bluetooth the app from my phone to hers, but it seems like I should be able to.

Her plan is voice and messaging, no data, but I'd pay for that download gladly...

And once Daughter 1 one is set up like this, I'll add daughter number 2.  they are 14 and 11, and about ready to start making their own way.  I do not need a dead on accurate map, just that if they are nowhere near the place they tell me they are going, I'd like to be able to see.  I'm not looking for up to the second info either.  but if they tell me that are at the football game, and end up at the mall, I want to be able to see that.

The issue of privacy comes into play. I understand your concern for your daughters whereabouts, however, how does the supplier of the app know you are placing it on your daughters phones??? They don't. Which puts them in a spot of being liable for others stalking others.

An option you speak of could very easily be abused by those not so savory people in the world. And it is those people that make the options limited to know where your daughters are without paying for a service.

And options like Latitude, all they have to do is shut off the program.

Please keep in mind that if we all had Droids, I have seen about 10 options on this topic.  It's nothing new to the market.  It's just getting the non Droid, Blackberry, or Windows phones to do it.

The company I'm looking at has a website.  You open an account, then enter a cell number of a phone to be tracked.  The website sends a text to the phone being tracked.  You open the text, on that phone, and click on a link.  That link takes you to a download page, and you download the software.  All of the phones you enter on the site are then tracked on the company's website, which I can access from my Droid.

Since the phone has to be physically accessed, and do the steps mentioned, it's not like some randon person can just choose a cell number to track.  I think that process really puts a strain on the stalker angle.  Still possible, I'll admit, but pretty tough.

I just wish they had software that was not for smartphones.  Even something I could download to my laptop, then install on the phone via USB would be good.
