Change default G-mail account

I recently got the Droid X and it was set up at the Verizon store. The associate created a G-mail account and transferred the number from my old phone. All seemed well until I checked the name of the Gmail account she created and it was not what I asked for. I created the account I wanted and added it to "My Accounts" on the Droid. When I tried to delete the wrong account, I got a message that I had to do a Factory Reset to do that. I don't mind losing data and apps or having to set up the phone but I don't want to turn the phone into a paperweight either. Are there ways to change the default G-mail account without a "Factory Reset"? What does "Factory Reset" do? I would like to avoid going back to the Verizon store as my experiences are always bad.

Factory reset justs put the phone back to the way it was before the store employee set up the phone the first time. You should lose anything on the sd card, but you can take it out to be sure. You will any downloaded apps, text messages received, call history. I would also verify where your phone contacts are saved. If they are listed as Google contacts, you will need to transfer from the incorrect gmail address to the new one you created. If they are saved as phone contacts, you should at a minimum export them to the sd card to back thme up. You can also take the export file on import them into the new Gmail account.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
