Deleting individual email msgs from the phone will also delete the msg from the main server. Can i CLEAR EMAIL DATA from the phone but not affect the server email msgs? I need the memory on the phone so clearing data makes sense, but can't risk deleting msgs from server. Help.

This is a common question we receive, and the answer is kind of vague, but here it is: It depends. The email server can be a pop3 server or an IMAP server, or even Exchange. Features can vary based on what kind of email account is set up. For example, if you are referring to Gmail, the native application on the phone does not allow you to remove the email without deleting it from the server. Other mail providers have different options. What email provider are you trying to set this up for?
There is generally a way around the native setup on the email server if you can find a mail retrieval application. I hear K-9 is a popular one, but I can't recommend a specific one. Just search the Market for email, and I'm sure your will be able to find many different applications. Those applications will read from the server and most will have an option to remove from the server when deleted from the handset or to remove only from the handset.
You can also control how far back email syncs. For example, on Gmail, you can choose to sync 4 days back, 3 days, etc.
I hope this answers your question. Feel free to post any follow up questions or resolutions.
