Connectivity to 3G.

I spend most of my time in New York where I get a 3G signal and everyhting is fine, but once a month I go to West Virginia and about half way down there, I lose my 3G and it turns into 1X. This drives me crazy, it sometimes limits what I can do. I also know that android 2.3 Gingerbread starts to roll out tomorrow, and since I can't connect to 3G, it won't let me click on system updates. I would like to get this update, but without 3G, it seems that I can't. I have tried dialing *228, it gives me *MESSAGE NO. 32* and rambles on about U.S. Cellular (The prodominant nextwork down here), and says dial 611, I tired, and it didn't work. I've also tried *22899 and *18 I saw that it might be my PRL, but I can't seem to update it, or anything for that matter. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like when you are connecting to 1x, you are connected to US Cellular towers. You have to be connected to VZW towers to update your PRL. It possible that the area you are going through only has 1x extended coverage and not native VZW coverage. There are some places like that still.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
