Contact sort by Last Name

I know this question has been asked before, but it's been a while, and I'm hoping someone has come up with a solution.

My gmail contacts are sorted Last name, First name, but my contacts are sorted by first name. While this is extremely frustrating, to make matters worse, my car uses the list, lust it is sorted by first name.

Please, please, please tell me there is a way to sort the contact list by Last name.

Not quite sure that answers the OP question though! One solution is to download a free replacement dialer from the market, such as Dialer One, which allows the sorting of all contacts by Last Name, First Name

& won't that make for a 3rd list of contacts, sounds like more aggravation.

Well, Dialer One replaces the current contact app (and the stock Dialer) so you get a single list of all your contacts.
