Contacts by backupassistant

I have two Droid X. Both phone was set up at store with our old phone contacts. I already tried to use backupassistant and it works with primary line but it didn't work in my second line. I also registered both lines but still didn't work. Any solutions?

I avoid Back-up Assistant like I do the mall at Christmas time. I use my gmail account to keep my contacts backed up and synced.

That should be no problem for you since each phone is associated with a gmail account, right?

I agree as well to use Google instead of BUA.

I have never lost any of my contacts in the year I have my Android phone. Then after reading all these past months about the issues with Backup Assistant, I am SUPER glad that I didn't even have the option of using Backup Assistant and only Google was available for my phone. In fact I had to export my contacts out of BUA after they were backed up from my old feature phone and import into Google. That old list is still sitting there on BUA doing nothing and is SO outdated now. LOL

I have the opposite problem.  How do I turn off BackupAssistant.  I created a separate login for a secondary account and activated BackupAssistant and the birthdays keep changing themselves to some other day.  I agree with the other posters, Gmail is a much better alternative.  I'd like to completely ignore BackupAssistant.  How?

As a sidenote the spell checker on this forum wants to change backupassistant to backstabbing.  :smileyvery-happy:

You may end use of the Backup Assistant Service at any time by removing the Backup Assistant application from the device.  To have your contacts backed up by Google, you will need to you will need to create a Google account and then select to have your contacts synced to the Google server.

How do I remove Backup Assistant?  I wish I could, but it seems to be one of those preinstalled applications that are protected from user/owner removal.

You can remove the Backup Assistant program from your device to discontinue its use.  The Icon will remain on the device because it is a factory preset.  This factory preset Icon can not be removed.

You can't remove any of the Verizon supplied apps.

Last update to Droid X removed Need for Speed: Shift and replaced it with Madden NFL 11.

I purchased a phone, not a gametoy.

I've tried removing both, as well as Backup Assitant.

Can't be done without rooting phone.

I have to ask this as I don't use BA, but in settings, there is a Backup Assistsnt tab where it appears that the sync settings can be changed. Is this not the case?

I'm going to be soley on the X for the next 3 days as I am traveling very light (and not happy about it AT ALL), so I don't have access to the user manual.

And while I appreciate the Verizon folks participating on the forum, the Back-up Assistant application CANNOT be un-installed from the phone. One of those preinstalled apps that gives the APA people a bad case of gas...:smileyhappy:

Boy am I glad I don't have BUA on my phone because even after reading the posts by OsheaG twice I still can't mentally figure out how to remove the program to discontinue its use and the icon is still there.

Would users need to remove the BUA account under Accounts where the sync settings are similarly like for the gmail, facebook accounts, etc.?

No, no, no, no, no, NO.

Oshea, PLEASE pick up a Droid X and look at the Backup Assistant programs (there are 2 on mine).

The uninstall option is GRAYED OUT and not possible on my phone. Is it possible on yours?

Unless Oshea can show us differently on his/her phone, BA can only be stopped, not un-installed.

(with kudos to my daughter for waking me up with useless text messages at this hour!)

I too have two Backup Assistants installed ver. 1 and ver. 2.2.1 and neither can be un-installed.  Only ver. 2.2.1 is running.  I assume ver. 1 is left over from the original software install and Verizon/Motorola forgot to un-install and remove it during the upgrade.

"BA can only be stopped, not un-installed", how does one do this?  I'd be semi-happy just to do this.  I did a "force stop", but it will be started again the next time the phone is rebooted and may even be restarted automatically for all I know.  I'd like to stop it for good so it quits messing with my contacts.

Sorry, I should have said "look at the BA programs under "applications" in the settings", which is where programs are un-installed, when possible.

I do have Documents To Go, so I could download the manual, I just haven't had the need to.

As for Adobe, the less I need it, the better...
