Contacts into Groups

My phone recently updated its operating system, and I can no longer put my contacts (stored on my phone, not in Gmail) into groups. I tried logging in to Backup Assistant and it doesn't seem to support the Droid 2, even though the Motorola website says it does. Is there a way to get the contacts into groups? Help!

from cody 21:

CONTACTS / MENU / DISPLAY OPTION / GOOGLE /   That will display the GROUPS defined in GMAIL ... just select the one(s) you want Grouped & Selectable via the Group Icon.

The problem is that I don't want to store these contacts in my personal google account, they're work numbers. Can't i just have them on my phone and put them in a group? Thanks!

not that i'm aware of, backup assistant won't do groups & i don't need a 3rd party app to do it but there's probably something out there that can help you.

Anyone else have any suggestions? It seems sillly to me that there wouldn't be a way to do this on a phone, the flip phone I had 5 years ago had this capability!

I suppose I could, it just seems silly to create a google account just to be able to put my work contacts into a group on my phone.

Mwhcrew, thank you for your inquiry. I checked the Contacts on a test Droid 2, and unfortunately it looks like the phone does not have the option to create groups. You can certainly use Bearone21's suggestion of creating groups through Gmail. Also, the phone is compatible with Backup Assistant, and the application should be pre-installed. It will be under Settings>Accounts>Backup Assistant.

When I look in backup assistant online it doesn't give me the option to add groups. The link is there, but is greyed out. Thanks!
