Hi Im a new Droid 2 user and Im having the prerequisite signal issues and Im in verizon's most heavily covered areas. I have my facebook gmail and twitter all loaded on the phone. Whenever I access the Contacts (or the Dialer) I am experiencing 20 second lags where the screen does its "transition animation" and freezes on a black screen for upwards of 20 seconds whenever I access a new area of the contact info or switch from Dialer to Favorites. I also find that the contacts and dialer crash frequently. It took me over a half hour to make a phone call this morning between the signal dropping and the contacts/dialer locking up. Needless to say Im not a happy customer... All the bells and whistles are working fine, but kinda defeats the purpose of making phone calls if the phone doesnt work... Any suggestions of a workaround? Multiple calls to tech support confirm the signal issue is a widespread problem with many users. If theres an update they can do to fix it fine otherwise I have to return this web 2.0 doorstop.

Hello jpcooper43. I have read your post and understand your concern regarding your contacts running slow and not being able to make a proper call on your device. Some troubleshooting steps you can take is to power off your device and remove the battery for about 20 seconds. Once powered back on dial *228 and press send and when provided the options, choose option 1 to re-program. If the issue you are having still occurs, you will need to perform a hard reset.
From the home screen, touch the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Privacy.
Touch Factory Data Reset.
Touch Reset Phone. If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
Touch Erase Everything.

you may not necessarily have to do a factory direct reset. you do understand your phone is basically a miniature computer? and just as any computer the history is saved and has to be cleared occasionally or lag and clogging will occur. i have found a free easy to use app that achieves this end. on your phone go to market>apps>tap the search icon>type in history eraser>tap history eraser DUMAPIC (should be the second one listed)>tap install>open app>the easiest way to delete all history at once is the bomb>and depending on how much you browse the internet, call people, etc. is how often you need to delete your history. i do it about twice everyday. a factory direct reset should be used as a last resort if you cannot fix the problem any other way because it erases everything.
ive had an issue where i had to do a factory direct reset. my music worked for about a month then kept freezing on me. it wouldnt go back to the main screen or anything in the music player the screen just went black and my phone completely froze. however a hard reset worked for me. when you have an issue like this that can be resolved any other way this fixes it however i would use it as a last resort as a factory direct reset erases everything even backed up information on your sd card because everything is reset to the way when you first bought it out of the store. if you think this will work for you here is the quickest and easiest way i have found to do it:
turn droid 2 off
open keyboard and press x while holding the power button
device will power on
keep holding until a yellow triangle appears
press the magnifying glass on your keyboard
use the volume button to select wipe data/ factory reset
use camera key to confirm
tap wipe data/factory reset
then ok
highlight reboot system now
then ok
