DROID 2 and Global Traveler Program

Hello. I'm getting ready to travel to Europe for 10 days and since my Droid 2 (not Global) won't work over there I'm participating in the Global Traveler program that Verizon has. They're sending me an older Blackberry to use. I will be able to transfer my phone number over to it while I'm in Europe. This way I can use it as an emergency phone, texting and light data.

My question is, will I still be able to use my Droid at Wifi Hotspots while over there? I would like to use it for the camera, apps and internet when near a wifi hotspot.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to. I traveled to europe last spring and used my Droid 1. I used it for google maps, photo's, etc with no telephone service whatsoever. This really shouldn't be any different than using the device while in "airplane" mode, so it should work.

Wifi is Wifi. It works anywhere in the world as it uses un-licensed frequencies and is open.

I just returned from Asian and can confirm that Android applications work and update fine. Another welcome surprise is that the new Skype app works great over wi-fi. The only feature missing is video and texting capability.
