Looks like a pretty sweet phone. I like how it has a keyboard on it.

You're really kidding, about the keyboard comment, aren't you? I mean, this is (just like) a Droid Original, with some new hardware inside and a slightly modified keyboard. Don't get me wrong, I am trading in my BB for it, so I AM HOPING this will live up to all the hype!!!

Ordered mine about 15 minutes ago.
I'm more interested in the Fascinate, but I'll give this a try. If I don't like it, I'll return it within the 30 days and go back to my Omnia and wait for the Fascinate.

Not kidding. I actually like how Verizon how another keyboard android phones. All their other new android phones are all touch screen. It's nice to get this phone with a keyboard.

I agree, I like phones with the physical kybd and touch screen. Now my decision is to go with the Droid 2 or LG Ally. I need to play with the Kybd on the Droid 2 before I make my decision.

I am due for an upgrade and had made up my mind to get the Droid X when they are now coming out with the Droid 2. I would appreciate some advice from a true techie as to which phone to get. They both sound great in different ways but for some reason I am drawn more to the Droid X because of the bigger screen yet I like "the look" of Droid 2 and since I have never had a phone with a virtual keyboard can't make up my mind whether I should chance it with the X that only has a virtual keyboard or go for the sure thing with the 2 that has the slide out. My current phone is an Env 2 and I have never had a smart phone before so I would really like some feed back from the experts because I'm afraid if I go to the Verizon store to ask, they will just tell me whatever to sell the phone.
Thanks in advance for your help!

In my opinion that's going to be a matter of preference. I didn't go for the X because it can't do bluetooth voice dialing, although the uprade to 2.2 will give it that capability. Also, my manager has the X, I saw it the day after and I couldn't believe how big that thing is. That isn't a problem for a lot of people and may not have been a problem for me, but my initial reaction was WOW that thing is huge.
The keyboard doesn't matter to me because I have an Omnia now which only has a virtual keyboard.

Hands-on video of the Droid 2 courtesy of droid-life.com. Looks a little sluggish though. Get rid of the live wallpaper and toss the blur-esque launcher for ADW or Launcher Pro and I'm sure it won't skip a beat though.

I hate the way this phone includes the Moto/Ninja Blur on it. I'm also slightly confused as to why the screen isn't bigger. It seems like it's not necessarily as good as the Droid X but it's better than the Droid.

I have to correct you here (and sorry for taking this up in the Droid 2 forum. Sounds like a great phone, too.)
I do bluetooth voice dialing every day with my Droid X and Jawbone Prime. I could have cared less about having the feature (the people that are screaming about bluetooth voice-dialing are probably driving and eating a hamburger in one hand, drinking a Coke with the other, and talking with a passenger. Please...), but now that I do, I enjoy having it.
And it DOES work with the Droid X.

Really? WIth no 3rd party software and without having to have a headset that stores the contact info?
I haven't read where anyone else has stated that yet. If that is the case, thanks for the correction.

yeah, it's part of blur/no-blur. It has the same Nuance software as the Devour which also does Blue tooth voice dialing.

The Droid 2 has some serious issues that need to be corrected......Find some blogs (google search) Droid 2 screen lock texts or Droid 2 screen lock text messages
The day i purchased my Droid 2 i had over 10 very weird, some threatening, messages w/in a 24-hour period. I brought it back the next day to exchange it for another new one, and no sooner was i out of the store when another weird message appeared on the screen. I then research if there was a problem with others, and voila ---- according to a tech, it's the worst problem they've seen in over 30 years. So......if i were you, i would return it ASAP and wait till they get a fix for it. (One of the blogs said your information gets sent out to others just like others' information gets sent to you and appears on the screen). Other than that, the phone looks awesome, and i will purchase it once that problem is fixed (if they can figure it out).......Some of the messages i got: This is my phone. I dont know how you got it. I can find out who you are because it has gps. and I have reported you to Verizon". Another series of messages on the screen was somebody else's name, address, tel #, husband's tel # ---- and they are all legitimate people. So, if i was getting their information on my phone,,,,,,,who could be getting mine? -- got rid of it as quickly as i could!

I have a D2 since launch date, and i have had NO stranges text messages. I only suspect you have some other type of problem associated with identity theft (not necessarily financially related).
My D2 is fine and i only get messages from my friends...and that is it.

Same here. I've had mine since 8/12 and I have had no weird text messages. I do sometimes have an issue when I don't get phone calls or texts.

I've had mine since 8.18 or so and no weird messages. Text and other messaging come through well. A guy at our Verizon store here downloaded K9 on my phone so I could monitor my old yahoo account. When I set up my yahoo acct on Froyo, it wigged out and wouldn't download mail or download it sporadically and kept telling me that my acct info was incorrect. I deleted it, had him download K9 and it's been great. I think Froyo has a couple of rough spots, scrolling on my phone varies from super smooth to pretty choppy, but nothing serious. I'm becoming an Android junkie!

As I've said many times - you need to go into a store and get your hands on one, and see what YOU are comfortable with. My current phone has both a touchscreen keyboard (at least when using Mobile IM) and a physical keyboard - and I don't think I could deal with an all touch keyboard.
A friend has the Droid and it is a very solid feeling phone, and a "real" keyboard, and the new Droid 2 looks very similar. Droid X, all touch - I'm not so sure I would do well with it. You might. Plus the Droid X is bigger, the Droid and Droid 2 are about the same size as my current Voyager, so that, for me, would be a consideration.
Only you can decide what YOU like - we can tell you what WE like or don't like about different models, and different phones, and give our reasons, but in the end you have to live with the phone and be comfortable with it. So go shopping, go play with the phones (that's why they have them out on display!!) and have fun making the decision.
Then report back on which you chose and why, and then whether or not you feel you chose wisely.
