Looks like a pretty sweet phone. I like how it has a keyboard on it.
You're really kidding, about the keyboard comment, aren't you? I mean, this is (just like) a Droid Original, with some new hardware inside and a slightly modified keyboard. Don't get me wrong, I am trading in my BB for it, so I AM HOPING this will live up to all the hype!!!

Ordered mine about 15 minutes ago.
I'm more interested in the Fascinate, but I'll give this a try. If I don't like it, I'll return it within the 30 days and go back to my Omnia and wait for the Fascinate.

It also has a new OS
Well the new key setup looks a lot better then there first try at it glad they got rid of the pad on it as well.
I have not upgraded yet to the Droid 2 as I am still a year away from my upgrade.
So sad I really want the new one.
I am due for an upgrade and had made up my mind to get the Droid X when they are now coming out with the Droid 2. I would appreciate some advice from a true techie as to which phone to get. They both sound great in different ways but for some reason I am drawn more to the Droid X because of the bigger screen yet I like "the look" of Droid 2 and since I have never had a phone with a virtual keyboard can't make up my mind whether I should chance it with the X that only has a virtual keyboard or go for the sure thing with the 2 that has the slide out. My current phone is an Env 2 and I have never had a smart phone before so I would really like some feed back from the experts because I'm afraid if I go to the Verizon store to ask, they will just tell me whatever to sell the phone.
Thanks in advance for your help!

In my opinion that's going to be a matter of preference. I didn't go for the X because it can't do bluetooth voice dialing, although the uprade to 2.2 will give it that capability. Also, my manager has the X, I saw it the day after and I couldn't believe how big that thing is. That isn't a problem for a lot of people and may not have been a problem for me, but my initial reaction was WOW that thing is huge.
The keyboard doesn't matter to me because I have an Omnia now which only has a virtual keyboard.
Hands-on video of the Droid 2 courtesy of droid-life.com. Looks a little sluggish though. Get rid of the live wallpaper and toss the blur-esque launcher for ADW or Launcher Pro and I'm sure it won't skip a beat though.

As I've said many times - you need to go into a store and get your hands on one, and see what YOU are comfortable with. My current phone has both a touchscreen keyboard (at least when using Mobile IM) and a physical keyboard - and I don't think I could deal with an all touch keyboard.
A friend has the Droid and it is a very solid feeling phone, and a "real" keyboard, and the new Droid 2 looks very similar. Droid X, all touch - I'm not so sure I would do well with it. You might. Plus the Droid X is bigger, the Droid and Droid 2 are about the same size as my current Voyager, so that, for me, would be a consideration.
Only you can decide what YOU like - we can tell you what WE like or don't like about different models, and different phones, and give our reasons, but in the end you have to live with the phone and be comfortable with it. So go shopping, go play with the phones (that's why they have them out on display!!) and have fun making the decision.
Then report back on which you chose and why, and then whether or not you feel you chose wisely.
I agree...it is strictly personal preference. There are a LOT of good smart phones on the market...it is YOUR decision and you will not go wrong. For every benefit, someone will cry foul and tell you a reason why you shouldn't get a particular phone.
So...go into the store and play with the phones for a while - then decide which one you like best. For grins...create a "test" GMail account. That way, you can add it to the phone in the store and play with it.

I have to correct you here (and sorry for taking this up in the Droid 2 forum. Sounds like a great phone, too.)
I do bluetooth voice dialing every day with my Droid X and Jawbone Prime. I could have cared less about having the feature (the people that are screaming about bluetooth voice-dialing are probably driving and eating a hamburger in one hand, drinking a Coke with the other, and talking with a passenger. Please...), but now that I do, I enjoy having it.
And it DOES work with the Droid X.

The question is "How many are here and where?" I just went to swap for the Droid 2 and was told there are none in our area!
i live in a small town in NC i went in and played with the x and droid 2 today they have both in stock by the way for those of you waiting and waiting on phones head to a smaller town apparently they get the same stock but less demand i love a real keyboard but was letdown all around by the droid 2 it was slow and the keyboard was still clunky typing on it is like playing wack a mole having to press so hard so im going with an x was torn between the size of the x and the keyboard of the 2 but trust me if you just buy a phone with out playing around with it first you're not the smartest peanut in the turd because i wanted a droid 2 and walked away today without it

Well, seeing as they have a 30 day return policy that is plenty of time to play around with it, much more so than the few minutes you spent at the store.
I don't have to press hard on the keys at all, and it's been very responsive.
I'm going through the new device learning curve, but it's only been a day. It can't do a good deal of the things my Omnia could do out of the box, but since WM is done at least for a while, I needed something else.
You said you've used/tried HTC Incredible and Droid 2.........I was almost ready to go w/ Incred. when I saw Droid 2 and read the specs. Looks like better ops and longer battery life and I like the physical keyboard as I'm new to smartphones- felt the virtual keyboard had a Super light touch. I like the look and feel of the Incredible a little better but kinda lean towards getting the "better" phone for the same price. Could you tell me your opinion on comparing the 2 phones? THanks
I played with a D2 in the store on Saturday, for a few minutes. Someone was waiting behind me to play with it so I gave it up. The keyboard was fine, I didn't have to press hard. The phones on display are played with by all kinds of people and get worn out, keys get sticky, and are generally abused. I wouldn't expect a demo keyboard to give you the same response as a new phone.
it was a new out of box droid not a demo i snapped a few pics with it and the salesman got a little testly saying now he had to delete them because its against policy to sell a phone with pictures on it ..kinda made me laugh seeing as how it was the inside of the store and through the window i took the pics of.
The Droid 2 has some serious issues that need to be corrected......Find some blogs (google search) Droid 2 screen lock texts or Droid 2 screen lock text messages
The day i purchased my Droid 2 i had over 10 very weird, some threatening, messages w/in a 24-hour period. I brought it back the next day to exchange it for another new one, and no sooner was i out of the store when another weird message appeared on the screen. I then research if there was a problem with others, and voila ---- according to a tech, it's the worst problem they've seen in over 30 years. So......if i were you, i would return it ASAP and wait till they get a fix for it. (One of the blogs said your information gets sent out to others just like others' information gets sent to you and appears on the screen). Other than that, the phone looks awesome, and i will purchase it once that problem is fixed (if they can figure it out).......Some of the messages i got: This is my phone. I dont know how you got it. I can find out who you are because it has gps. and I have reported you to Verizon". Another series of messages on the screen was somebody else's name, address, tel #, husband's tel # ---- and they are all legitimate people. So, if i was getting their information on my phone,,,,,,,who could be getting mine? -- got rid of it as quickly as i could!
HEY VERIZON
Would love to get the droid2 without the moto blur and all the preinstalled junk on here! I want Froyo naked not running around with lead weights on his back.
My life can be very hectic at times, and the droid helps keep it much more organized. The phone is customized to your own personal needs, whether your interested in music, sports, social networks, sharing media, business, or just about anything else you desire. They weren't kidding when they said droid does it all.
these last two posts sound like those pr firms company's hire to spread good press about products lol both are at an outstanding 1 post count i hope verizon isnt upselling its own crap in the boards thats taking it too far
no the droidx has a much more capable and superior chipset than the droid 1 even though i have heard rumors its more like 800mhz overclocked to 1 ghz but hey side by side both are snappy comes down to the size and features when you pick between these phones
Had a Blackberry Storm 9520 and the battery life was 3 to 4 days which wasn't satisfactory. Got the Droid on Saturday. Let it die by 9:00 that night. Charged it for 12 hours and the 100% charge lasted less than 7 hours. Lost that one. Replacement arrived yesterday from Assurion(glad I had the insurance) let it die last night. Charged it for 12 hours, turned it on this morning and it lasted about 9 hours. Only had seven texts and a 5 minute conversation and a dead battery? So are they going to make it so the battery lasts more than a day at some point?

Battery life of 3-4 days wasn't satisfactory to you? You have rather high standards for what is basically a little computer running 24/7!
The battery issue can be helped by using the task killer to shut off things you don't need to use every minute of the day (lkike your GPS sattelite and such).
I get about a day and a half on a charge with minimal use, which isn't much I do agree. I have been trying to order the extended battery through verizon that is supposed to double your battery life, but Verizon's website has a glitch that makes ordering accessories impossible for some reason.
i got a droid 2 not the global though the one before that. its a little aggravating at times but it will be great when i visit home forchristmas because i wont have to drag along my laptop with me like i always had to. longer battery + smaller = happy me lol
I just found that i can listen to my music on my phone thru my bluetooth. This is neat. I love this phone.
