DROID INCREDIBLE 2 : BAD Reception !

B33
Legend

There's been complaints on the Incredible 2 of its Reception with the Towers but what some people may be overlooking or just don't realize is it has 2 radio receivers 1# A CDMA receiver to read the Towers in the states an 2# A GSM radio receiver to read towers in other Countries.

An i think whats happening is the Gsm radios are Turned when they leave the store or when a customer orders the incredible thru the web site an if this is the case it would impact reception an Battery life.

And i think what need to happen here in this case is Verizon needs to pute a small note in box to remined the customer that buys online or the Rep. in the store needs to check the setting an make sure it's on the CDMA setting. before usng the incredible.

So any contributors that are carring the incredible 2 check your cdma / gsm settings to make sure gsm is off. an cdma is on

An a footnote to Pass on:  For new Droid 3 Owners

An i'll provived a linc for one's to read it's also mentioned in a droid life artical for Droid 3 owners to turn off there GSM radios in them as well

Clearly the poster hasn't read the other posts on this topic.  My GSM is OFF, my phone is set to CDMA only, and my reception still SUCKS!  My signal strength in my home ranges from a -105 to a -125.  It's ridiculous.  My reception/signal strength in the very same home w/ my MOTO Droid was excellent (low -80s).

Nice try.  But your post is clearly not the solution to the issue that a ton of Dinc2 owners have.

As I posted in similar threads, I'm convinced the signal/reception problem people are experiencing with the DINC2, myself included,  is a result of poor antenna design.  If it's a hardware/design issue, a software update won't help, not even doing a *228, factory reset or battery pulls a thousand times.

This issue has been reported on many, many other cell phone forums.

DincX110, are you saying that you have no signal problems?  I don't mean this as a dumb question but I was just wondering if anyone had a DInc 2 that didn't have reception problems.  In reading through the various threads, it seems like all DInc 2 phones have this problem.  Usually, a forum regular at least jumps in and says "hey, my phone works great!".

Okay, here goes: "hey, my phone works great!'. My wife and I have had them about two weeks with no problems. Just lucky, I guess.Maybe it was a bad batch of phones.

Look this was merrilee a suggestion. To a possible problem that the droid Incredible 2 might have. it does have a gsm radio an i thought it might be On an causing a issue.

There could also be a problem in cdma radio itself and a update from HTC is what might be needed to fix the issue.

It might be tower or system related. i know at&t is set to take over some towers that are in certain areas that verizon wonce held. it might be that.

i've got droid phones my self a droid X an a droid incredible  i have seen issues come N go with those two. many times before an i delt with it.

But if you feel this is'nt something you want to pute up with. get rid of the phone but do it before your 14 days are up!  So you can exchange for another new phone.

Well, thanks for the mere suggestion, but...!

With the default Vodafone SIM, the phone cannot get a GSM signal in the US, and so would default to trying CDMA anyway.  (And if you use a foreign SIM, you probably know what you are doing).

Re towers: many of the complainers compare the reception they are getting with the Dinc2 with another verizon phone, and the signal, not just bars, if often quite a bit lower.   This suggests the phone rather than anything else.

That said, the DINC 2s owned by my family seem to get OK reception, but in an area of weak signal, my Droid 2 Global worked fine whereas my daughter's DINC 2 reported no service.

I am four miles from the tower and if I stand in my front yard I can see the tower.

My signal has never been better than -97 and most times runs -101 to -105, if it is even getting a signal. Flashes no signal at least every hour, and sometimes stays on no signal for 10 to 15 minutes.

The type of network indicator goes from 3G to 1X. I haven't timed how long it will stay on 1X.

I live a mile from a VZ tower and my phone stays between -86 and -92 db and often goes over -104.  Even at -86 the call quality is poor.  A lot of dropped calls too.

There are five towers, including Verizon's, within a mile from me and every carrier's phone shows a full signal and has excellent call quality.  When I called Verizon to report the high number of dropped calls I was eventually put on the line with a tech who told me the tower was bad, but they had no plans to do anything about it.  It seems that in the short time I've been with Big Red I've heard every excuse in the book as to why they have poor reception and call quality but the bad tower one takes the cake.  That's right up there with "the dog ate my homework."

Well were i live i'm in between two alltel / Verizon towers one is 1.2 ml  an the other is 1.0 ml away an at times my signal even as close as i am. it still can go up an down like a yo yo. At Times

but what i was told some few months back by a Verizon supervisor that on bar strengh even if your bars go to Zero if the 3G indicator is still visible you should be able to make calls an use Data.

But as you said Jon that with that tower Don't make no since to me at all an they have Tecks or should have Tecks in the area that can go out there an fix that thing as it serves as other towers do alot a customers.

Just a thought hows the signal strength while your outside from any buldings is it the same as inside or does it help some.

An i have done this many Times try *18 SND what it does it buzzes the Tower an gets you a good connection but sometimes you have to do it more than just one time.

An Jon i had to ask you have you got some Aliens maybee playing with that  Tower  :smileyvery-happy:  just kidding an i do hope they get it fixed for ya.

Thanks DincX110.  I suspect that the tower was not a Verizon owned tower and when I looked on a website for cell phone towers I saw that indeed it was owned by an independent company (don't want to name them here) who then leases it to Verizon.  We have a lot of towers for various cell phone providers in our area owned by this entity.  Still, it makes no sense to me not to fix the tower since it serves a major interstate.  But, that decision is out of Verizon's hands.

Hi cactusjumper! I'm curious about how you came to get such accurate signal readings. Are they from an application? If so, what is the name?

As for the rest of the community, thank  you so much for sharing your experiences. I want you all to know that I have reviewed this with our technicians and we have taken your feedback for review. We hope to have this matter resolved soon!

Hello DionM -

I get the signal strength readings from the phone itself. I press menu/settings/about phone/network. The readings I reported are all from the times I have checked the phone to see what the signal strength is. I do this because on another post someone reported actually having better reception than the bars on the front of the phone indicated. I don't think this is true in my case. I do not get good reception with this phone! And yes, I have owned other cell phones from Verizon, so I have a history to compare this phone to. When I have no signal it plainly says so on the front of the phone, it also tells me whether I am connecting to 3G or 1X.

On another thread a Verizon employee (MIKES_VZW) asked owners to do certain things and report back what the effect was, I have done these tests.

1. Make sure the phone is in CDMA only mode -- My phone is and has been since the day I bought it. Signal strength is bad.    Don't know if it would be worse with it were set to dual mode (CDMA/GSM) as I haven't tried it.

2. Remove the back cover, which contains the antenna, and report signal changes -- I did this, before removing cover the reading was -100. After removing cover reading was -120 and then dropped, as I watched it, to 0 (zero).

3. Apply the lastest update pushed by Verizon -- This I have not done as yet, as members have been reporting problems brought on by the new update. I don't want any more problems, so I will wait awhile and monitor evaluations of the benefit of the new update.

Hope this answered your question adequately. And I fervently hope that Verizon and HTC can come up with a fix for this reception problem, be it hardware or software, as I am not the only one experiencing it.
