DROID X 2.2 issues

Here is the problems that I faced so far.

1- No option to silent the phone.

2- No option to disable the screen slide lock.

3- Screen is very sensitive, especially with the application drawer. It will automatically select any app once you start scrolling.

4- It’s very hard to delete apps or widget from the 7 home screens unless you resize them.

5- Text messaging not in order.

6- Slower internet.

7- Slower android market.

I think 2.1 sounds like an upgrade if I can have it back.

I performed my update yesterday and so far the only issue I have found is when in landscape while texting the screen doesn't display all the characters.. I am still working through the remaining applications and will post more after I get through everything else. Is anyone else have the same issue when in landscape orientation?

The only thing I have really noticed is that a couple apps were no longer there after the upgrade. I have only had my phone a couple of days, but one of the apps I noticed was the bar scanner. After the upgrade it was missing. I was able to download it from the apps store for no charge, but I didn't really understand why it would delete the app in the first place.

1. click settings then sound and click silent mode.

2. looks like your right on that one. lol

3.my screen seems fine and it never launches an app unless i press it firmly.

4. deleting things off your home screens is as simple as holding your finger on the shortcut or widget until it highlights and then just slide it to the basket.

5. texts are in the order that they are received.

6. no slowdown on my end.

7. the market seems like it always has.

The update is rubbish, I went to verizon store yesterday and the droid x they had in display was still running on 2.1. I compared mine which is running 2.2 and it was way slower than the 2.1 at the store. And I mean slower in every aspect.

some how I have this feeling that all the people that have something good to say about that update, they might be verizon agents with customer accounts just to cover that rubbish update.

Everyone don't forget that verizon pushed this update at the last minute by the last day of the summer to avoid lawsuits on false advertisement. I know the update will be bad but I didn`'t expect it to be that ridiculous.

I had a slight speed and battery life issue after 2,2 I did a factory data reset and WALLA... works like a charm. CLeared ringer problems too.

I only put the very basic issues with the 2.2 update, I didn't get into the advanced options that used to be working for the 2.1 OS. And for your slient trick, that is not working and not intuitive. You only get to chose either or, not silent ringing and vibrate. Am sure if you in the field of computer engineering or web development you will understand but if you in the field of checking your facebook and checking your twitter account am sure you won't understand whats going on.

And for the 5th point about the text messages, could you explain how all of us have the same issue?

Concerned (really??), I think it takes an incredible amount of unmitigated GALL to come in here and call people like me out and out LIARS. And that is exactly what you are doing when you spout off that people like me are working for Verizon. Don't you DARE tell me that I'm wrong and I'm a Verizon shill when I talk about the cool things now going on with my phone because of the update. Besides, who's right, you or me? Since your post already alludes to your opinion, what qualifies you to say so? What makes you right and me wrong? The truth, whether it suits your agenda or not, is that aside from a bluetooth headset issue that seems to have cleared itself up and a speed dial thing (can't set a speed dial number past 2, anyone seen this or know about it), my X is indeed a better phone because of the update. The battery life, amazingly, has improved, although the real battery test will be at our shop today where the signal strength is fair to midland and our shop is a metal building (Where Verizon, with a tower 4 miles away, works better than the AT&T tower that is 1 1/2 mile away). The phone rings louder, which was my only complaint in the first place. It seems to be "snappier". And I could on and on, but unfortunately, I've run out of give-a-d**m.

There's a lot of people that genuinely want to help folks who are having problems with their phones. No one expected the update to go smoothly for 100% of the X owners (and trust me, we have fared WAY better than the Incredible owners) and lots of people are eager to try and help folks with problems and I happen to be one of them. The very first thing people should do after an update is to perform a hard reset on their phones. I know that this isn't an official directive from Moto or Verizon, but it just makes sense from an update perspective. You are starting over fresh. I think this bears because a lot (but not all, mind you) of Incredible owners have solved their update problems by doing the hard reset. It's a good place to start. And if I cared, I'd suggest, as an approach to the out-of-order text message issues, to try using Handscent, if you haven't already. Will it help? I have no idea.

That's all I'm going to offer at the moment. Past that, with an attitude like yours, you are on your own, as far as I'm concerned. From the looks of things, you need to go to Ebay and find an old Razr and avoid the entire smartphone revolution altogether.

I love how folks with your point of view love to brag about "computer engineering" "web development' or whatever your supposed field of expertise is in. We aren't discussing brain surgery or developing IT systems for the government. We are talking about phones. Your superior intellect insulting response isn't serving you so well when you approach people that don't know you from Adam's housecat. Trust, I realize that you didn't come in here looking for help, but again, I'm not going to silently listen to your assertions about folks like me that aren't having problems

I wasn't calling you a liar, I put all the basic problems that I noticed and I mean "basic". For you to come and say no those problem does not exist, it means that am a liar. Second of all what are you try to accomplish here, some of us trying to get their phone fixed or getting a new update that works for everyone. But people like you that they are just saying nothing is wrong with the update and we need to reset it or do a factory reset, you are holding us back.

Do you honestly think when you tell me I need to reset my phone, its like a big news for me. Do you think I didn't do that several times before even writing anything. Some of us we have a life and have respectful jobs, so am sorry if I cannot reset my phone 4 times a day or do a security wipe everyday to fix my phone problem. And my intention here is to get help other than "LOL", "reset", "take the battery out" , etc.............. all of us know how to do that.

Well since the upgrade I have his list of problems and more. I used to talk this phone up on how superior it was. But not now. I would take 2.1 back in a heartbeat. The only things I like are the, flash player and the camera shutter on the screen. I drive semi and reception isn't as good. And the internet is quicker at some locations but nationwide it is worse. I used to have 3g almost everywhere but now not as much. And when I do get it it is slower than it was. Some people that are in larger cities that don't travel much may have seen improvement. Like I say it is better some places. But us on the road all day might be having issues that others don't see.

I am having lots of issues. Swype is slower than before. The screen sensitivity seems off. I am having an issue with calls that have no sound and I have to reboot. Its just generally a junky phone now.

I hope verizon is going to do something about it. And for all people with no issues with their droid x after the update which is weird, am happy for you. however, don't leave comments saying the phone is working fine and we basically don't know how to use it because you figured out how to hard reset your phone, we all know that but we are not waiting for your expertise on this matter, you end up sounding like {no personal comments, please}

MY NEW Problems

I recieved the update the other day. The big complaint i have now is, what is with all the programs running in the back ground? I go in to my advanced task killer and when i used to have about 6-8 things going now i have about 14. I have seen my memory as low as 48megs. I kill them all..then bam there back up. The apps that im complaining about ...I didnt download them and i dont want them. For example.. skype..amazon mp3 ...vz navigator...social networking...contacts...city id. I do not use face book or twitter on this phone..in not paying for the vz navigator..i dont use skype either. some of these apps were here before but there are many more here and it seems to be slowing down my phone...i went into running apps but i dont see them listed in there. Does anyone know how to kill these apps perminently? I can also agree that my screen seems kinda touchy in the droid app market...when i scroll through it...it seems to select things occasionally.

Oh ya...when i turn on GPS or WiFI....there is no Icon on top of the screen like there used to be. The fact that these phone at best get a day of useage....i would like to know when Im sucking down my battery unnecessarily and would like to have the icons back on top of the phone.

Just for giggles if i did do a hard reset....is it going to blow away my contacts and pictures and vids? I do have the back up assistant and im guessing that will be fine...but should i take out my sd if i did do a reset? or should I just make sure i get all the pics off then format the card as well and start everything new?

On the brighter side....I will say that when i used to look through my pics in the non landscape mode it...as soon as i started to scroll...it would kick me back to the camera...that issue is fixed. The flash is great for the web sites...i havent surfed the web enough to notice any speed issues there.

I've received the update last night and this is the issue I am having ever since my DX was updated to 2.2:

I have Motorola Widget "Date and Time" on my desktop and the time is not syncing with the actual time. Seems like everytime the phone goes in to idle , the widget clock also goes into idle and time gets stuck at the time of idle. I have to clock that widget and then bring it back t get the updated time. Called VZW about the issue but they didn't have a single clue about the solution.

I am looking for solution. Anyone here to help or having the same issue ?

Also, just like others I am also having tons of unnecessary apps running in the background and they keep coming back even after I kill or force stop the apps.

You should UN-IN-STALL the app killer. UN IN STALL the App Killer.

Clearly, you think that the answer is to kill off every process running on the phone. You should educate yourself on the OS a little before you just start killing off every process.

Please educate us how UN-IN-STALL it. It's built in with the OS and I dont think i can UN-IN-STALL it nor should I even there is an option.

Just incase if you dont know how to find the app killer, go to SETTINGS--> APPLICATIONS--> MANAGER APPLICATIONS--> Click "Running" Tab---> now click any app you wanna kill/force stop

I guess I jumped to a conclusion...usually. when people start talking about killing off apps they ars using an app killing app from market incorrectly. So now ask whatapps do you keep force stopping under settings?

I have a question for some people here on this forums, whats your credentials? Seriously what do you guys do for life? Did you work in the field? Are you in Designing software or hardware? because if not, don't attack anyone by saying educate yourself. And don't say my phone is working fine you don't know how to use yours. That was my first time to post anything on a forum to see if anyone has the same issues not for you to tell me your phone is working fine.

So please go back to what you know best, chat on facebook or check your twitter because other than that you just sound ignorant.

Concerned, you started a lot of that when you made the claim that folks who claimed, as I still do, that they aren't having problems must be working for Verizon. I'd have never said a word to you otherwise. I had you and your elitist attitude figured from your first post.

concerned....what? I just read the entire thread here and not one person has attacked you or minimized the issues you feel you have. I made a post about app killers because someone brought up their over-use (in my opinion) of their app killer. There's documented...um, documents and posts here and other places that an uninformed use of app killers can be causing many of the issues people keep complaining about. But people still go ahead and misuse those tools.

If I could just repeat Gerio's reply to you I would, no one else could have summed you up better.

About "tagging some of those people", I hope you've tagged me. I like to be "it". That's just a little humor thrown in.

1. i think the point was you shouldn't have to go into settings to be able to silent the phone.

That's pretty much a big reason i came in here, to see if anyone else was annoyed that you can't use the volume buttons to have the phone do what you want it to. I'd like to be able to turn my phone up from silent to vibrate using the buttons, and i can't do that anymore. why would they do that?

I also miss the double period tap for a comma on the keyboard, but that's frivolous

I think everyone is missing the point here. You only need to go into settings 1 time. After that you just use volume keys as you did before.

For whatever reason, vibrate "always" was set to default with the 2.2 updates...on ALL phones w/ 2.2 update.

It just needs to be set back to "vibrate only when not in silent mode"

no, you have to change the settings if you want it to be just silent or just vibrate. in the only in silent mode vibrate setting, it goes from ring to vibrate when you use the volume buttons. in the only when NOT in silent vibrate option, using the volume keys makes it go from ring/vibrate to silent. there's no just silent or just vibrate options either time. it's obnoxious to have to change the settings when you want your phone JUST to vibrate and not ring.

I don't think i can find any other way to explain that.

On the 2.2 some applicatins came with update you can try to remove by going into manage applications. Doing a hard reset will not remove contacts since saved in google.

I had gmail sync issues which only a total factory reset fixed ( or half fixed it is still slow to sync)

swype works in landscape mode on texts but on emails I get a force close error. This is dirving me nuts

I installed the ringer toggle so I could silence the ringer at a touch. I

I am sure there re more things but the ones I have found are enough to keep me busy for a while
