With no Netflix app for the X. I want to load movies on to it. I know how to do that. But I don't know what format would be best. I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for my movies when I put them on my HDD and for burning. They work for me and are easy to use. When I do have a encryption problem, I use DVD Fab.
With a screen resolution of 854x480, I don't need to put the file on at full bit rate. It'd be a waste of space as the screen wouldn't be able to display the file at it's full resolution.
1.So,what bit rate should I down convert a movie file to?
2.Is there a program that will do it? I'm sure Shrink will. As it offers conversion rates. i.e. I can convert a file at any percentage of the original that I want. (how much though?)
3.)What kind of file format would work best for the X? ISO,MPEG-4?
4.)What bit rate equals a screen res. of 854x480
Any tips/help will be appreciated. Links to sites would be great too.
P.S. I have a iPod Touch 3rd gen.32GB, screen res.480x320. I would like to put movies on it too. Any ideas of how? The same questions apply as they did to the Droid X.

You can resolve all questions with one app..... "DVD Catalyst" it does optimized Droid X videes and also support iPhone and iPad by just selecting the device model number from a drop down list and click go. Get it from http://www.tools4movies.com/

There is an app called rockplayer that will play almost any format video. If you can't find it in the market, google it.
I believe they want a application to convert the video files, not a player, so I dont think Rockplayer will help wth what they are tring to do.

As for Converter, I've used Daniusoft DVD Ripper and it's ok. They have a pre-set Droid X setup so you don't even have to mess with any of the particulars.

crb79 using Daniusoft DVD Ripper have you played video on HDMI cable? If so how did the images look, I learned if I increaded the pixel rate up to 1248 in DVD Catalyst the images looks almost as good as the original dvd... I like to experimen with a number of apps and if you can give a positive responce for HDMI output I may give it a look see.

Well I haven't bought the HDMI cable myself yet, only used a friends a couple times. But it's interesting you would say that because I played with the controls a little bit to try to fine tune it and I wind up getting Avatar looking fantastic on the handset.
If it weren't for the size of the videos, I've been thinking about putting a 720p movie stepped down from a blueray onto the phone to see what it looks like. If I can get it to work I'm going to pickup a HDMI cable and a 32gb card next week.
