The Droid X Update is possibly out has any one Snagged it Yet! if so throw a Post on Here An tell your Thoughts of it. B33..
@B33 - 2.3.4 is the correct Android version and the new System Version update brings it to 4.5.621 .. so indeed it looks like they're rolling it out.
not yet, not sure i want it.
Is this Update scaring you off Bear...it is a big Update for sure an if i Accept it my self i hope it does not mess my X up.
just leery of it when mine is working so well. only option is to not install it.
i selected remind me later 2 or 3 times & gb downloaded itself but i had to install it.
how's the maxx holding up or did you return it & go back to the dx?
Still got him Bear he's not doing to bad i got a case that i put him in it was a tight fit kind of made me Leary putting him in it but once in the Maxx looks good but it might be pain to get him out if i need to do any thing with the Sim Card but i got one of my smart features on it's the Wi-Fi one when i come home it Automatically kicks it to Wi-Fi then when we leave it does the same. It Takes great Pictures outside an inside is not to bad either an it does it in a Fast maner no hanging up. The speaker is the only thing that kind of makes me kringe a little With it's high Treble but i fixed this with the E.Q. App.
I got it Monday morning; part of the Soak test group.
That's all I will say about it, or I'd have to kill you all!!
Ok 4 x 4 Give us some Dirt on it! is it good or what from your post it sounds that it isn't something to write home About.! B33
I'll stick with what I got...but I do hope that it fixes the errors of the last update, and is a benefit to users as opposed to a headache...good luck
kinda like bill gates/microsoft & all the sp's to fix the previous sp.
As you can see from the above "ad", it's nothing to write home about. Fixed some glitches, cleaned up some stuff...nothing earthshattering, but no new headaches either. Actually one of the smoother updates (I've been a part of each "soak test" since the rollout of Gingerbread back in May). While I didn't say "COOL!!", I did at least say "cool".
Got the update this morning, and my phone has been giving me nothing but constant problems. Resets every now and then, wireless going in and out, 3g not even working, the phone is jumpy and slow, and nothing works on it. When my phone resets, it hangs after the red Motorola sign pops up, and I have to do a battery pull. Not sure what this update actually did for the phone, but it seems like Gingerbread is nothing but a failure on Motorola...they should just update the X to ICS and be done with it...this would fix a lot of problems.
wonderful news
@Moomba - can you confirm what your Version # is ?? Settings / About Phone - is it 4.5.621 ?? or what? Very strange because it doesn't look like a general release has even started, only the SOAK (test) group so far.
You may have to do a Factory Reset because it sound like the New software is not working to well with the Old. This new software brings the X up close to what's on the Razr an Razr Maxx. They have 2.3.6 an this is what's supposed to be on the Droid X. when Updated!
I have 2.3.4, and I tried doing the factory reset. For some reason, my phone forced this update this morning.
I have this version on my X.
4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US
When you say you "tried a factory reset", what does that mean? You DID one or it failed?
That's odd as it shows 2.3.6 but they might have got this No. Wrong. If it's possible to go there whats the Menu like is the Icon's in color. that's what mine are on my Maxx.
Update: Woops My mistake it is 2.3.4 :smileysad: Sorry for the Mistake...
You have the new update Go to the first Page or my first Post on here an Left click on the Update Click to super impose it an you can read the Update a little Clearer
i'm installing .621, pray for me.
booted ok, taking a long time to load media files, music & pics ok, contacts intact, pop3 email ok for send/receive, that's all i've checked.
fwiw: i had a textbook upgrade to gb
Cody When i looked on my X it too showed the 2.3.4 Update you was Correct on this. But what threw me was an if you look on my first post on this an left click on the update to super impose it. It was mentioning the 2.3.6 an that why i thought the X was getting it instead of 2.3.4 Thanks Bubba.. B33
Downloaded this morning, so far so good. I will be happy if it solves my reboot, multiple texts & bedside dock lights, time will tell
what reboot issue did you have?
It would randomly reboot, nothing would fix it, I tried everything! I guess other would call it reset.
did you have the reboot issue before or after gb?
The only bug still remaining for me is that stupid (Intermittent) Power-back-up after a power OFF. It's happened twice so far, but definitely not as frequent as before.
I bever did have the power on issue, but then again I rarely turn my X off. A day & a half isn't really enough time to give a thumbs up on the update but it went smoothly and so far the onky issue is 1 duplicate text, so far so good :-)
No Duplicate Msg's on my X but my Razr Maxx still has that little snapping pop at the End of the Ringtone. If i could figure out what is causing that an fix it then i would be real happy :smileyhappy: with my Maxx.
I have two issues that i have realized since receiving the update. The first issisue involves the screen. it will not automatically dim. Settings are correct. Second issue is that while taking pictures the camera now freezes the captured image for about one minute preventing me from taking another picture. It is a Droid X. Any advice?
Do this Power off your Phone wait a few seconds then hold down the power an Home button once it goes to the little Android an Triangle push your volume Button in it will take you to the Next screen Were it Will have the Option to Reboot the System, Apply update from SD Card, Wipe Data / Factory Reset, An Wipe Cache Partition. Do the one were it says Wipe the Cache Partition. To do it Hold in on the Power Button it will show you it's doing it once done it will go to Reboot System Tap the power button Again it will Reboot an re-power up An the Cache will be Clean. Try this to see if it Fixes the Issue.
Go to manage apps and show all then clear the cache for the camera. It should resolve your issue if clearing the whole cache doesn't.
Just recieved my update. Will I love it or will I hate it? I'll know in a few days. Maybe less.
it'll be a good sign if after the install, you get to your homescreen & everything works.
if you're looking for it to fix issues with gb or before, good luck.
So far, so good. Shut it off last night, and it staid off. No glitches...yet!
mine only gets shutoff when i charge it.
I picked up the upgrade last night. Went off without a hitch. Haven't really noticed anything different. But it's only been 12 hours.
Since my "X" is my only phone, I never shut it off, even when charging. I do reboot it about once every two weeks unless I have rebooted for someother reason.
Been trying to watch for any news from Mobile World Congress regarding any new phones from Motorola, and so far nothing. Anyone heard or seen anything?
no duplicate texts or emails on mine.
Same here Bear i sent 5 to 10 messages from my Maxx to my X an they pushed thru smooth an No duplicates. Koosh i wouldn't think you would have to do a F.R. but if the issue doesn't resolve itself that might be you next move.
Factory resets do not resolve this issue, all they do is waste time
Well as aggravating as it must be.. receiving those text in that way hopefully there a fix coming to solve it..
I don't do a whole lot of Texting so really can't say if this is an issue or not for me -- at last the few Texts I *do* send/receive never duplicate. There have been suggestions in other threads that duplicate Texts can be caused by a "poor 3G connection". the point being that when a TEXT msg gets sent or received and the final "hand off" of the msg being sent/received is not complete, the msg gets resent. So not sure if that may be the issue. Something you could try if this is reproducible is that when it happens, runs a test of the 3G data connection - just to see how strong a signal you have. One of the free APPS that can do that is "Speed Test". Just a thought.
PS - when you go to MY VERIZON online, check your Text history. Does Verizon show that you are sending/receiving multiple Tmessages? or does it just show 1 for the several you are seeing on the phone? Because if it is Verizon actually sending them, I would contact them -- some people have reportedly done that and Verizon did something are THEIR end to resolve the issue. (Do a SEARCH up above for some of those threads on "duplicate text messages").
Well my phone did a spontaneous reboot this evening:-(
Do you mean while just on the screen? or are you referring that it Powered itself back up AFTER powering it OFF? This latter issue is still not resolved with this update. (The auto-power-up-after Power down.)
No I mean I'm in the middle of using the phone or it's just sitting idle and spontaneously does a reboot. It's happened a few more times since then also. I have never had the issue where the phone turns itself back on but then again I usually don't shut my phone down as it is my only phone.
B33, I have not (manually) rebooted my phone in over 226 hours, after installing the update. (It wasn't and hasn't rebooted on its own).
Prior to that, I was manually rebooting daily due to sluggish and inconsistent performance.
I have been outspoken in my dissatisfaction with my X, but I am honest enough to give it kudos this time.
Will this change my mind a year and 8 months into the X experience?
No.
But, it's a nice change.
Yup Sw mine has been a good Girl so far. So no Bitchen as of yet Lol . But i am wondering about the Prl's it has been over a Month an No new has popped up as of yet. So i called an talked to a C.S.R an he told me mine was Current. So i guess i will wait till the middle or end of the month till i check again.
This is good to hear, DSW.
I was going to send you a PM, but this forum still looks as useless as ever. Can't find where to do that. Maybe the forum hates mobile phones and tablets?
I just peeked in after a long time to look around. Was greeted with a log-in page. Really, Verizon, to just browse the place??
I've been offered an unbelievable deal from the local guys on a new GNex. I may do it, at least if what I expect does happen, I can sell it and go back to the Dark fruity Side.
Hope all you guys are well. No idea if i will be able to find my way back here. Bread crumbs? Lipton Diet Green Tea bottlecaps, maybe.
Back to my cave.
Geri O
Great hearing from you Gerio.
I don't know that one can even check for, or read PMs (or whatever equivalent this hideous mobile version of the forum uses).
Interesting if you did try that phone. And, yeah go back if you want when the iphone5 is released.
Peeps, I would be very very interested if any of you can just make a point to Power Off your phone every night, if possible - just to see if YOU encounter the Power-Back-Up issue with this update. It's totally great that we can now run for days without rebooting the phone, but unless you're Powering Off on a regular basis, you're likely not experiencing the bug that is still occurring (for me & some others on the Moto forum) .. I've been testing this since receiving .621 several weeks ago (SOAK test) and have had 5 occurrences of the Auto-Power-Up after Powering OFF.
Hey Geri been a long time Bubba missed ya on here you gotta pop in more often lots a stuff went under the Bridge But glad to see you back on here B33
Cody, I'm not even sure why I power mine down each night. But, if I remember, it's worth a shot. You know I'd love to say that glitch wasn't fixed.
With me Sw i guess it's a habbit i 've been doing it since getting my BB's back in the Alltel Days by the Way found my old Ryan Newman Alltel Hat it's still in great condition I like Verizon an all but Miss alltel an there jingle. I bet BudOne knows that one.
274 hours and here you go Cody. Powering it down. Let you know if it's still off by morning.
It did not power back up.
All I can say is that it is very very intermittent. PS - do you have LOOKOUT installed?
Owned Droid X about 16 mos: About 12 hours into OTA update and android.process.media was still using battery almost faster than system can recharge. Use as an alarm clock and clock process didn't even fire off six hours after 1st reboot. Took quite some time to narrow down potential issues. After 1 new 16GB flash drive, removal of several apps/reinstallations, and finally some stability is starting to show up. Spontaneous reboots after freezes were common.
android.process.media showed 58% of battery consumption immediately following reboot for several of the initial hours of use. 3G indicator lit up nonstop like Christmas tree during that time.
Haven't seen enough posts on the web to isolate but copying flash-old to flash-new without pictures, videos, and music helped. Now adding back items in limited fashion. Cleared every running application cache as well. Currently 3 hours of stable uptime.
please tell me where i missed anything about 621 that said, "you will be able to run for days on end without rebooting"?
somewhat contrary to what verizon had recommended about rebooting the dx daily if you were a heavy user, back when i got the dx in dec '10.
What you are missing is the comments I made that I ALWAYS rebooted daily because my phone is usually a buggy glitchy hunk of .......
After the update, I was pleasantly surprised that it was running so smoothly that it went almost two weeks without me NEEDING to reboot it. Hence my comments about going so long without a reboot.
Alas, it is back to its buggy glitchy self.
I just did the update, and now my phone is stuck at a bootloader screen. When I restart the phone it loads up normally, then shuts off and back into the bootloader screen. Stupid update...what do I need to do??
Try clearing the system cache and if that dont work you can do a hard reset to resolve this issue...
TO WIPE CACHE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW BUT ON STEP #4 SELECT WIPE CACHE PARTITION INSTEAD OF FACTORY RESET...
Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread)
