DROID X keeps dropping connection after 10-15 minutes in HotSpot mode

This is so annoying after I found myself happy with this phone. I will connect to HotSpot on my phone without issue and after approximately 10-15 minutes...DROP! I'm only connecting one device (my laptop) although I should be able to connect up to 5 devices without issue. No intensive data upload or download..just email checks. Anyone else having this issue? If so, what have you done?
Thanks and Happy Holidays

It sounds like its the power profile you are using, under advance you can change the data drop time and other settings that may help... Performance Mode may work also. Chamge this option at Settings > Battery Manager > Battery Mode

That doesn't fix it for me... I can sit there and watch 3G drop in and out after about 10 minutes. It keeps dropping in and out every 20 seconds until I disable hotspot.

I should probably add that this problem has been occurring since I got the phone. I've had it replaced twice for other reasons and since tethering wasn't that important, I never addressed it to tech support. All of the previous devices with various software versions had the same issue, 2.1, 2.1 update 1, 2.2, and 2.2.1.

This sounds like the typical wifi interference that you get with access points. Under the Settings menu for the Hotspot, look for broadcast settings or channel settings. Play with the channels until you find one that doesn't disconnect.
You might also make sure that your phone is plugged into a power source while you hotspot as it will drain your battery really fast and this can also cause your connection to cut in and out.

Thanks for the reply, but I've tried all of the channels and have left it plugged in. I've tried various forms of encryption. Getting fed up, I've tried other applications as well for tethering as well as bluetooth DUN. 3G drops whenever there is more than 1MB transferred no matter which app I try.

This may sound like a silly question, but do you have hotspot enabled on your account?

I've had it enabled a few times, 3G just always died and I've tried it every time there was a major software update.

Oh, I just thought of another trick to try. Turn the screen timeout on your phone off and give it a shot. I'll research some other fixes because I know some friends have gotten theirs working fine after having issues to start off.
A friend just told me that they had success with turning security to WPA with an 8 character passcode.
Edit: There is also talk of an issue within the Android Code as this same problem has shown up on developer Nexus 1 handsets and other handsets. With the Nexus 1 wifi set to channel 1 resolves the 3G signal drop.

I'll give that a shot and see what happens. I've tried WEP and WPA2...never really thought to try just regular WPA.

Sorry I'm running you through a bunch of different steps, it just seems everyone does something different to get it working for them.

Hey, if I have to go through a bit of crap to get something to work nicely, then that's perfectly fine. Screen timeout disabled with WPA also failed. I went to about 4 websites and then it died.

Have you tried channel 1? The Nexus 1 3G radio disconnects unless it's on channel 1. (probably not entirely related but worth a shot)
I'm getting the feeling that you are getting a data timeout I'm going to look through all the settings and see what I can find.

Yep, using channel 1, not working. I've tried most, if not all, of them.

Same here. Got my Droid X on launch day and just activated the hotspot feature. Seems to be dropping quite regularly and, dare I say it is practically useless. I've tried Channel 1, 14, 7, etc, plugging it in, not plugging it in, etc and it still drops. Disable the hotspot and you can be on 3G all day long.
I think when I get back on Monday or Tuesday I'm going to take the phone over to the Verizon store and have them check it out.
