DROID X strangeness with calling

Hey all,
I know there are a dozen-billion threads on this already, but none of them (that I have read) seem to be experience the problems I have.
So, I have all the same call drop problems as everyone else with one interesting addition: the call only gets dropped if I hold the phone up to my head. Now, I haven't tried using a bluetooth headset, but I do have a stereo headset (the Skullcandy headphone/set you get from Verizon) and when those are in I can have a normal call and not get a drop.
This is my second DROID X, my first one worked perfectly fine up until a week ago, when the headphone jack decided it didn't want to work anymore. Now this one WAS working fine until the entire phone bricked up and I had to boot into recovery and do a factory wipe. So far, I've had to completely reinstall my apps three times. I'm wondering if I should just wait this out and see if maybe an OTA will fix it, or complain to Verizon and get another new device and hope that fixes it.
What are your thoughts?

I'd take it to the store and show a tech what the phone is doing with regard to the poor reception when you are using it like it was designed to be. That sounds like a hardware problem, except that you didn't have this issue until you did the factory restore. At any rate, it needs to be looked at by a tech who can exchange it yet again, if need be.
Good luck, Geri O
