Data Plan

MarcoCervantes

Is there a way i can get around the Data Plan?

Right now i have an LG Versa that Data is NOT needed. and i can get a new phone FEbruary. AN equivalent to my phone requires a min of $10 data plan. Might as well get a Smartphone then

The question is.

can i get the Droid Incredible and have the $30 data plan for a month and then cancel it or would i have to Buy the Phone FULL price to get around the need for a data plan. If i did that would i not have any problems and just go on the internet using WIFI?

Thanks

If you have a smartphone you are REQUIRED to have the $30/month data plan. You cancel the data you will be paying a $375 ETF.

You also might want to figure this out soomer than later.  Data plans may go to pay by use like AT&T, if they already haven't.

If you have unlimited, it is grandfathered in.  (or at least that is what have been told)

That's why i brought up the Solution of buying the Phone FULL PRICE, meaning that you are not Contracted.

But yea If i read online that UNlimited might end, I would big time jump on it before the announced date :smileyhappy:

Buying the phone FULL PRICE still will require the data plan

Also just to add in it does not matter where you purcahse the phone either. When you activate it on Verizon you'll be prompted to add a data plan no matter what

Might as well get the Unlimited data since 25mb for $10 is a JOKE! and so are the "Feature phones". lol or i could just stick with this LG Versa till i really need a new phone. hmm. Good i got this phone before the new policy, because my phone would have been effected, as well as my moms and sistes LG EnV3

Marco, I was exactly in the same situation a few months ago as you are right now. I got LG enV3 with one of Verizon's old Premium National plans where EVERYTHING was included; vcast, vz navigator, mobile email, unlimited web, unlimited text messaging before the company started charging $10 for 25mb. So, I wasn't affected by the change because I've had my enV3 before the new policy kicked in. I think you're in the same situation with LG Versa.

I had a really difficult dilemma of eiether keeping what I've had or going for a touch screen smartphone and with that $30/month plan. I couldn't imagine having a phone without a keyboard after using a keyboard phone for years. Also, I was sure that I'm not gonna need this unlimited internet for my smartphone (I was wrong; I spend less time at my computer now which is a good thing, lol). At that time, LG came out with Ally and my friend suggested me that there's no point of going from a keyboard phone to a keyboard phone, after a lot of research about the Incredible (that was the end of May, not a lot of reviews have been made yet!) I decided to give it a shot to purchase the phone and forfeit the old plan, BUT in case I didn't like the new phone I could've returned it within 30 days and get my old plan back  if I decided to stay with enV3.

I don't regret a bit that I picked the Incredible and I'm suggesting you do the same in February. You have plenty of time to weigh all pros and cons of the phone and decide. Besides that, new phones will probably come out by February, so you might even change your mind about the Incredible but I personally love this phone. It's the best VZW can offer at this time (even Droid X isn't comparable with the Incredible). All these "feature phones", including the old good one enV3, just look very pale comparing to the Incredible, the least to say.

If you want to use the phone as a phone, then you don't get a smartphone. Period. Most apps require some sort of data connection and that is the reason why the plan is requied (and unlimited since it uses a lot).

If you want a PDA without a data plan, get an iTouch.

what aibrean said. if you'd be happy to ONLY use it with wifi, then buy a zune or itouch for half the price. that being said, i was sketchy about jumping from the $10/month to $30/month also. i had the env touch and could not have been more disappointed since vzn marketed it as the "app friendly" phone and there were NO useful apps except for $ subscriptions. i got the inc and now CAN NOT believe i didn't get a smart phone 3 or 4 years ago. i'm done with the dumb phones!!!!

A smartphone without a data plan is, well, not smart at all.
