Data Usage spike

I just received a notification that my data allowance is 1/2 used for the month. I normally don't even use a quarter of my data allowance during the entire month! I haven't been using more data than usual, what could be happening? Also, my email is not updating normally, seems to be getting slower and slower.

did you update any very large apps? have you streamed any music or video? or was there a recent update to your phone (some major updates to your OS can be 100+ or even 200+ MB's)

To improve your phone's email functionality please clear Data/Cache on your email account: Menu>Settings>Applications>ManageApplications>All>Email>ClearData/Cache.
