Hello,
I will be travelling to Canada this weekend and Australia in July. I know that there are charges per minute and per text when you are calling from the US to CAN or when calling from CAN to US.
If I use data while in CAN, will I be charged (if so, what are the rates)?
If I use a local wi-fi connection, yet the phone service is off, will I be charged (if so, what are the rates)?
I'm just trying to figure out how I can communicate from CAN to the US without extra charges while there.

While traveling in the U.S.,Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico text messages sent to non-U.S. phone numbers of participating carriers will not be applied against any monthly text messaging allowance:
Text messages sent to phone numbers in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico are charged domestic rates per your plan.

Thanks for the reply, Jax. Wifi makes sense, just wanted to make sure. As far as the text messages -- when I called the automated service yesterday there was a charge for both texting to CAN and texting from CAN.
I assume there would be no charge if you had a plan that included CAN. Perhaps that what you have, since you live in WA?

Hi there!
If you do intend on using only wi-fi, please turn off data roaming in your phone. Go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Data Roaming (make sure its unchecked).
Other than that, the links posted above will give you rates for your international travels!
