Just bought a Droid X online the other week, can't wait for it to arrive even though it's going to take 3 weeks lol.
Anyways my only stipulation for purchasing was that I get a txt and data plan only, and not pay for a set amount of minutes I will never use anyway. After reading a few places online I'm a little worried because they say it isn't possible.
But just before purchasing the online service rep told me it was, that i just set the order with a regular plan and then call customer care and cancel the voice as soon as the phone arrives and i will only be paying for txt and data like i want. Was this information wrong?
If so, I'm going with sprint and an evo 4g, with a company discount it would be cheaper with them if i have to buy a voice plan anyway, what should i do?

LoL maybe....
Some kind of phobia I assume, it's just not pleasant. I just have no interest in making, or recieving calls for that matter. I have even less interest in paying for a service I don't use for years like i did with my iphone.

I rarely use my G1 for phone calls. The 300 minutes I have with it pretty much go to waste every month. I only use the phone for internet and messaging purposes. Also take the side of the people whom are deaf. They most likely don't want to talk on the phone. Would rather depend on internet and messaging

Great One, you took the words right our of my mouth. I know several hearing impaired people who use their phones for everything but, phone calls.

I hope this eases the worry. There are data only plans and the rep could put a text package on for you.
I hope this helped

Blatantly lied to and then told there is nothing they can do about it. I think i seriously hate verizon now.
My convo with support online before buying the phone:
Please wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience!
A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Lonnie
Stephen: Howdy
Lonnie: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Stephen: I would like to purchase a Droid X, and get a data and text only plan with no voice/minutes. How would I go about setting this up?
Lonnie: I would be happy to help you with setting that up.
Stephen: Wonderful
Lonnie: What page are you on in the order process?
Stephen: Plans
Lonnie: What you would need to do is order with a regular plan and then when you get the phone you would call customer care to change to data and messaging only plan.
Stephen: Oh ok, perfect. Thank you.
Lonnie: Just go ahead and complete the order but stay with me in case you have any trouble.
Stephen: ok
Lonnie: I can also get you an additional $50 dollars off on the phone. How does that sound?
Stephen: Sweet
Stephen:
Lonnie: I also recommend going with some screen protectors and a vehicle charger. The screen protectors could save you hundreds if you drop the phone and scratch the screen. The vehicle charger will always keep you charged while on the go.
Lonnie: What page are you on in the order procesS?
Stephen: Ok, I am at the cart screen just before checkout.
Lonnie: Okay do you see where it asks for promo code?
Stephen: Yes
Lonnie: Enter AAL50 there for me and then click add or apply.
Stephen: Cool, Thank you
Lonnie: Did that take $50 dollars off on the phone?
Stephen: Yes
Lonnie: Great! Now just continue to checkout.
Lonnie: On the next page please be sure to spell out all words in your address.
Lonnie: Everything going okay for you?
Stephen: Yes
Lonnie: Once you get to the next page please do not enter dashes or spaces in the information.
Stephen: Ok
Lonnie: Excellent!
Stephen: Ok, so after purchase you will be able to remove the 450 minute voice option from the plan, or is there a specific number i would need to call?
Lonnie: Once you get the phone in the mail you will call customer care at 800-922-0204 and tell them you want the messaging and data only plan for smartphones.
Stephen: Ok thanks.
Lonnie: The next page that should come up is review your order.
Lonnie: If everything looks okay there click submit order for me
Lonnie: Did you want to get some screen protectors?
Stephen: It says pending.
Lonnie: That is standard with all new lines. You should get a email shortly. Did you want to get some screen protectors? They are only $14.99 but could save you hundreds on a new phone if you drop the phone and mess up the screen.
Stephen: Oh ok, no i want to wait and look around for prices and a case at the same time.
Lonnie: Save $35 on a Display Protector, Vehicle Mount & Vehicle Power Charger w/ USB Slot it is only $49.99.
Stephen: no thank you.
Lonnie: It would normally be $74.00
Lonnie: Now that I help you order a phone, is there anything else I can help you with today?
Stephen: No i think I'm all set, thanks for everything.

Two options the way I see it.
1.) Talk to someone with corporate......Higher up/ Upper management, and explain you desired plan and your experience as posted here. Hopefully they can accomodate you wants, needs, desires.
2.) Cancel you order and/or service

Hmmm... It appears the plan exists for other phones, but not for Android phones...
Wow. Something that other phones can do and the Droid can't.
But I agree with trying to go higher up. If the plan is available for other phones, it should be available for the Droids.

I've heard of voiceless plans. With ATT you pretty much had to sign up for voice then cancell it later. You could do it yourself via your online account, just had to make sure you did it at the end of a billing cycle. I am not sure what freedoms you have with Verizon as far as adding and cancelling features yet.
