Deleting Text Messages

I just got this phone in February and it's deleting all my text messages. It happened once last month and again this morning. Is this a common problem with this phone? Can they do anything to fix this or do I need to get a new one?

I have reviewed this issue with our Technical Support Team and we recommend contacting Motorola directly. Due the nature and number of concerns with this issue, we have determined it to be an equipment issue, as opposed to being related to the Verizon Wireless Network. Motorola can be reached at 1-800/331-6456 or by clicking this link.

Thanks,

Go into the message application. Press menu button and select settings. Scroll down to the storage settings and verify that you don't have option to delete old messages enabled.

I don't have the option enabled. It seems like alot of people have had this same problem.  The only thing Verizon suggested to me was taking the battery out to see if the messages came back when I put the battery back in. Of course, that didn't work. Is Verizon going to do anything to fix the problem or is this something I'll just have to deal with?

Hello,

Since the soft reset did not work, you will need to backup your contacts and move any pictures or videos that you took to your memory card. Then, remove the memory card from your device and perform a hard reset. All data on your device will be erased and all settings will revert back to manufacturer defaults.

For information on how to use our Backup Assistant, please visit the link below:

Backup Assistant

  1. Touch Home
  2. Touch Menu
  3. Touch Settings
  4. Touch Privacy
  5. Touch Factory data reset
  6. On the Factory data reset screen, tap Reset phone
  7. Tap Erase everything.

Note: Reset may take anywhere from 1 - 10 minutes for reset and restart depending on amount of data on device.

Thank you.

This morning is now the 3rd time that my Droid Incredible has deleted all of my text messages. WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?! I do not have the auto-delete function enabled in my message settings. Taking the battery out did not work. PLEASE ADVISE!

If you haven't done it yet, it might be worth completing a factory reset. Once the phone is activated and signed into Google, go into the text message application settings and turn the delete messages off.

The reason I suggest this factory reset is to remove all possible leftover code from the old OS version

Roy, Roy. The issue is with the HTC Droid Incredible that was manufactured by HTC and not Motorola! How can Motorola help the user with a phone they don't make?

This is hardly from solved:

I myself have been experiencing this issue; and rather than dealing with the horror of getting a like new replacement, I did a little digging and found out that this isn't a problem with the make or manufacture of the phone, it's a problem with the Operating System itself!

Take a look at this link, and you'll see that this has been a re-occurring issue on several handsets; all different carriers, all different types of phones.

I myself continued to experience this issue and came up with a solution that helps minimize the risk of having all your text messages deleted:

These settings are for the HTC Incredible, using the default stock app.

Delete Old Messages    Checked

Text Message Limit: 175 messages per conversation

Multimedia message limit   10 messages per conversation

Delivery Reports    Not Checked

Priority Setting   Normal

Send Call Back Number Checked

Callback Number <your 10 digit MTN here>

MMS Settings:

Delivery Reports   Not Checked

Auto-retrieve    Checked

Priority Setting   Normal

Maximum message size    1200k

Attachment Storage   SD Card

I noticed that it tended to happen MORE often whenever I had a conversation with LOTS of pictures in it.  Even if I had downloaded the pictures already, it seemed to increase the chances that my text messages would be wiped. WIth this set-up, I haven't had my messages wiped, so, hopefully it works for you.
