Hi,
Every time I connect my Droid Incredible to my pc, my PC's web browser launches the V CAST Media Manager download page (http://products.verizonwireless.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_mediamanager_video).
This is an big annoyance and I would really like to disable it. Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks,
My HTC Droid Incredible just upgraded to Froyo this morning and now the same thing is happening to me. How can we get this new tab to stop automatically opening?
If you have Win XP, try disabling auto-play (might work for windows 7 as well):
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/disable-autoplay-of-audio-cds-and-usb-drives/
This is really annoying and you should be able to disable it on the phone itself rather than having to do this.
Good Luck!
That worked in Windows XP. Thanks. I cannot believe Verizon would do this crap.
THis worked for me, too, under Windows 7. Windows 7 has a comparable mechanism called AutoPlay under the "Hardware and Sound" Control Panel - but same idea. I narrowed down the problem to the "Software and games" AutoPlay option - so setting that to "Take no action" turns off this Verizon nagware while retaining the other Autoplay options (if you want that).
Thanks for the pointer! Verizon should have at least disabled the "pop up" after the first time it's shown - bad form, Verizon.

Experienced the same issue since the 2.2 update. And my phone is set to "charge only" rwhen plugged in ather than connect as a disk drive. Typical Verizon douches.
Thanks for the tip. I guess it never occurred to them that anyone might not want to use this completely unnecessary piece of software.
What I found with this is that when the dialog to install the software is up if you check windows device manager you will see another cd drive. if you right click that drive for the properties you can disable it so on future usb connections the software will not try to load. This way you do not have to disable auto start for everything on the PC.
One more thing the first time you conncect to your PC after the upgrade you are prompted to install the drivers for the CD. It will have VZ Icon. My guess is that like me most people are just clicking okay and the default is to install the drivers and always run software from this drive.
is there any way to remove this garbage from the phone? it's stuff like this and bloatware that, imo, totally defeats the purpose of what Android really is. if Google ever decides to sell another one of their phones ala Nexus 1, i think i may jump ship just so i don't have to deal with all this junk. as much as i love Froyo, all this extra baggage that came with it just S U C K S.

Have you ever read Google's ToU? Read it sometime. Google loads the bloatware themselves. I can attest to that while holding my Nexus One.
this was so annoying i had to find a way to fix it without disabling auto play for my whole computer.
Found this solution on another forum, works great.
dial ##7764726Hit CallType Password 000000 (that's 6 zeros)Hit Feature SettingsChoose CD ROMClick DisableHit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

THANK YOU!
I believe if you have the drivers installed and you go you notifications in the bottom right of windows you can turn off auto play for your device.(At least for motorola devices).
This also appears to prevent you from mounting your phone as a disk drive....not good.
Disregard that last comment! Everything does seem work. Thanks for the post. BTW: I contacted VZW through this site, about the pop-up and they said there was no way to disable it; that it would cease if I downloaded the software. I gave that a shot even though I wasn't going to use it. Of course, after its downloaded, it starts up when you plug the phone in!!!
I replied to VZW expressing my extreme anger over the situation. Especially since there IS a way to disable it.
V Cast is insidious. You have to uninstall the programs it put on your computer. There were two on mine.
Control Panel - Uninstall program.
This is a very annoying feature. I wish they would allow us to remove it from the phone as well.
Thanks worked perfect. Verizon is it's own worse enemy. Great phone and they have to aggravate loyal customers by pulling this crap.
When I tried to do this, I could not enter the password. Though dialing the number brought up the password dialogue, when I try to press "0" nothing happens (the password field is not populated). It tried closing and reopening the keyboard, but to no avail.
Suggestions?
I would prefer to not disable auto-play on my computer for all CD devices, so the above method (settings on the phone instead of the computer) seems to be the best solution, and I'd like to use it!
Thanks.
Thanks the ##7764726 thing worked for me. What does this does exactly?
Also I wanted to say to Verizon.
First off, what is wrong with Verizon that they thought this wouldn't extremely annoy people. I am extremely turned off to this product. I am boycotting the product because of how annoying this is.
It makes me want to punch my computer screen.
Seriously, what small-minded beaurocratic thought this was a good idea? They should be fired. Or we should at least be told who it was so we can publical shame them for being a megaturd.
Thank you so very much!!!!!!! This darn thing was driving me crazy!!!
There is an easy fix...

I had the same problem. Close the message box that comes up, this will allow you to use the keypad.
> I am extremely turned off to this product.
The root of the problem is not the product. The root of the problem is the company. I came to VZ after 15 years as an AT&T customer. I'll be back at AT&T soon if VZ keeps this crap up.
I tried this as well and had the exact same problem as "kidjedi". Can't populate the password field with the zeroes. Nothing happens when you try to put them in. Did they change the password or something?

Do you see the number pad show up? Not the phone's number pad. If you wait the number pad to enter the zero's will appear. If with the number pad the zeros are not entering, press in the password box to place the cursor there, then try entering the password.
And another thank you for getting that annoying media manager out of my life. Guess it's somewhat appropriate that Verizon would make you make a phone call to do it...
thnx
The customer service from Verizon SUCKS! I am having this same issue with the trash opening. I called and the person I talked to told me that it was HTCs program, not Verizon. I requested a supervisor to speak to ref. this because the intial person had no clue. Amazing the manager has no idea, shocking. After waiting for almost an hour to speak to a supervisor I filled out a complaint letter with the BBB. It would be great if EVERYONE on here did the same thing. Maybe we can get Verizons 'B' rating to a 'F'. Oh, and the supervisor blammed GOOGLE for this pop-up.
I could not get the ## number to work on my Incredible. Here is how I fixed the problem.
Not an elegant solutions, and doesn't block the browser pop up, but at least it stops the annoying video stream when you simply want to charge your phone at work.

echo 127.0.0.1 products.verizonwireless.com >>%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
You will probably need to run the command prompt as administrator for vista+
:smileysad: Unfortunately, turning off the Autoplay on All Drives on my win xp pro did not disable the vzw website pop-up to Backup Assistant Plus.
The drivers listed on the device manager on my pc do not have a VZ icon, are an icon with the Motorola M with the title: MotoHelper.
Seems there be more information to be obtained and perhaps consider switching to a different wireless provider when my contract expires.
