Disappearing photos and videos

I am having an issue with my photos and videos disappearing from the viewer gallery. At times there are blacked out squares with a "?" mark over the ones that are missing, and at other times the photos/videos just aren't listed at all in the total count- gallery listing 15 photos when there should be a total of 20.

They are not deleted and do not seem to be corrupted, because a soft reset with the phone will bring them back to life and proper working order. For a couple hours that is, until they randomly disappear again.

There does not seem to be any other issues with the phone or SD reading, as apps loaded on SD can be started up without issue, the app list in the SD installed manager in options reads all installed on there, and the available space under settings-storage appears to stay current on the SD card.

Anyone else with this issue or ideas to resolve?

Thanks.

Hi nickyg_600,

It sounds like there maybe an issue with the pictures being read on the device that result can result in the errors you have reported. Are the pictures on the memory card or on the device under saved messages? Perhaps try moving the pictures to your computer for safe storage. Then try a small test of selecting one of the pictures to email it from the computer to your device. Once received, then open and save that picture to your SD memory card. See if the same error re occurs for the picture sent. If the error does not happen, then the issue would refer back to some yet unknown error on your phone not allowing the pictures to remain readable without disappearing or having it blackened out or a ? mark. This suggestion also can help determine if the picture is the possible cause of the error. I hope this helps.

It is pictures takes with the cell phone camera itself. It seems that any pictures I download be it through the internet or mail seems to stay listed under the "All Photos" and "All downloads" portion of the album. As of this morning I had 30 pictures on the standard SD save spot.

Looking at the gallery now, it reads only 23 images. Using a different app for viewing such as JustPictures! shows all of them with no issue. Same thing goes with videos, where they disappear at ramdom from the gallery, but using something like Real Player lists them and allows them to play.

It appears the issue is with the standard gallery. Using a file explorer and looking at SD/mnt/DCIM/100media, the standard storage spot for images and videos taken with the camera, all of the videos and images taken with the camera are listed and thumbnails pull up for them.

I'm having the same problem, with that, plus all my downloaded ringtones keep disappearing as well, which is really annoying cause I paid for those.

I am also experiencing disappearing photos.  Both the photos I took with this phone and the ones that were transferred from my old phone.  Currently my gallery is empty!

I've tried going to the MyPix site and haven't found anything there that can help  - however, my pictures from the old phone still reside there.  The most recent ones I took with the Incredible 2 seem to be incredibly lost. . . . .

Yes, I have noticed this on mine. Photos I took with the phone sometimes show up in the gallery with question marks ... not the same photos each time either, it's random. When I restart my phone, they come back. And the apps on my SD card are not affected either, so I don't think it's a problem with the card. Just a glitch, I guess.

I am having the same issue on my HTC rezound... I contacted HTC support and they say it is a problem with google and the Picasa interface.. even though you can have the picasa albums disabled for uploads it still affects it. the files/pics are still in your phone. HTC told me just to use an alternative gallery app like qikpic or whatever you find in the Market. I am surprised Google has not fixed it yet I have had this problem since I bought my original Moto Droid 2 years ago. Hopefully they fixed it in ICS 4.0

Jeff, you may want to start a new thread for your issue as the two you posted in are rather old

Similar issue here - When I take pictures/videos I can view them in the gallery but after some time (haven't really measured exactly how long - maybe 20-30 mins?) I am no longer able to view them.  They come up with the white-exclamation-point-in-a-red-circle error message.  I tried to dump them to my pc and view them there and still no luck.  Based on some other suggestions found on other forums I tried Magic Chute, Mini Tool and CCleaner to recover them but none of them helped. Also tried an alternate viewer app and that did not work either...man, this sucks...
