Docking Station NOT Protecting Droid From Heat On Road Trips

I use my Droid as GPS on road trips and always use my docking station. On a recent 5 hour road trip in Florida my Droid lost GPS function because of the heat. The holding unit on the Docking station exposes the Droid to the heat coming through the windshield. Any news on a redesign of the docking station to address heat concerns for thee DROID.

Since the dock can be mounted in any place you see fit you could try relocating it to a cooler area because the dock isn't made to compensate for the outside temperature. I mounted mine on a console in the middle of my truck, it is in a very clear view area and it isn't effected why the temperature.

Not sure if you want to spend more money, but there is a really nice "dock" that actually connects to the air Vent - thereby keeping the DROID X very very cool while running GPS. It is called the "GOMADIC" and can be found on Amazon.com ...After much consideration and looking at various DOCKS, I chose that one - and recently drove 9 hours with GPS on the entire time, navaigation, email, pandora ... not 1 single reboot due to heat.

Also if you already bought the one from Verizon you can remove the arm on bavk of dock and mount it to the vent as well?

Luke, cody and wildman. Thank you not just the answers but also to the original poster. I just recently acquired a car dock. Took advantage of verizons essentials pack that was on sale. It never dawned on me that I was subjecting my beloved to added heat while mounted on my dash. I drive a new beetle. Lots of dash real estate for sure. I'm going to look into mounting it in the vent. Thanks for addressing a concern many probably never thought of.
