In the past two weeks, my droid charge GPS took very long time to lock its location: During the first 8-10 miles driving, it looks like the GPS was disoriented, the pointer jumping around with a light blue shaded area around it. For a few moments yesterday, it even showed I was dring on a Altantic City street when I was actually driving on a highway in Maryland few hundred miles away.

GPS issues yes I have them. Arrow points the wrong way and takes a while to lock on an accurate location.

that sucks, that is one of the main reasons I left Sprint. I was thinking the 4gLTE would be faster..

These all sound like frustrating issues. I'm curious if anyone has spoken to Technical Support about this.

Mine was doing the same. I turned off the Verizon Location service and all is good now. The VZW location service was showing my location at the cell tower and not where I actually was.

Thanks for that tid bit of info. I do not have problems with GPS but I live in a weak signal area and use a Wilson repeater here in the house that uses and outside directional antenna. My problem has been where to aim the antenna. I have several apps that show what tower I am connected to but I did not believe them because when I drive to the tower location my signal does not get much stronger than it is at home. There is another tower that I can drive too a mile or so away from the indicated tower where my signal gets to -67 dbm. I have always aimed at that tower.
I just did this trick of yours with the Verizon location on and sure enough the blue arrow in Maps sat right on the tower location indicated by the other apps until I got gps lock. After I unchecked it, the blue arrow was still at the tower location, but the gps lock was a few seconds quicker.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have tried all combinations of the 3 different GPS' on/off tsettings...to no avail.
I am also receieving a device driver (usb devive not recognized) error when I connect my device to PC. Both noted before and after GB update.

jodyhanson,
Go to the Samsung web site and find the driver for the Charge phone. Then download it into your PC.

I cannot believe it. I looked and it appears the Samsung removed the driver from its Web Site. I wonder what do they expect new Charge owners to do???
It is a little less than 23 Mega Bytes and its full name is: Samsung_USB_Driver_for_I510_V1.3.1900.0.exe
Google the driver's full name or try this site.
Try this site: http://www.mediafire.com/?1uj4j977d44ax98
Maybe take a look on the Verizon downloads.

Yes, I have had the same problem since I got the phone in July. It happens when you use google to navigate. It takes miles for it to start talking and just says "searching for GPS". I called teck support and the teck checked his Charge and found the same problem HA. He said we have to wait for a fix from Samsung. Not me. They are sending me another phone. If that does not work I will be insisting on them giving me a different phone or free Verizon nav service. We should all do the same.

I have this same problem, along with my camera making my phone shut off. I'm beginning to get frustrated with this device.

Take a look at the following post. It may fix your problem of not locking on. Run A-GPS.

GPS has been brutal on the Charge-much worse than my Fascinate. I can barely get a lock most times, regardless of how many location services I have selected. Nothing in the GPS toolbox kit seems to help. Hopefully Samsung will fix this GPS for good...

Mesocyclonic,
Did you run the utility A-GPS with ONLY the Standalone GPS and the Google Location Services ON (not VZW Location Services)?
Also you should check that you want "GPS Status & Toolbox" to tell you how long it took to lock on. Let GPS Status & Toolbox log you on the first time.
Then start Navigator and see how long it takes to lock on.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jerry. I had calibrated with only the Standalone GPS on previously. Just to be sure, I tried a calibration again and it took several minutes to finally get a lock, but at least it got one; maybe this calibration was a little better. Several minutes is still pretty poor for a GPS unit though. I'm starting to wonder if Samsung just uses poor hardware in their GPS units, which is a shame since most of the rest of the hardware is really nice.
