Yay!
I haven't received the update yet, but on another forum I follow (http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/24628-ota-update-starting-today.html), several have....anyone on this forum received the OTA 2.0.1 update today?
If so, how do you like the new screen lock slider? I'm not to sure about the looks of it, but I guess whatever works.....
The "official" word everyone has been waiting for....

i am thinking about getting the droid, could somebody tell me which plan i should get and how much a month its goins to run me. I am currently on a family share plan, could i just pay extra on top of that or would i need a whole new plan?
you should be able to upgrade to a droid if upgrade eligible(or buy one outright), it would be a $30 smartphone feature for your line.
Can you initiate the OTA update on your own or do you have to wait for it to be pushed to your phone? From the verizon web site it seemed you had to wait until you get the update available notification on your phone.
ok thanks a lot

You will receive a notification on your Droid when it is pushed to your phone...from what I have gathered from following other forums today, they are staggering the update throughout the week to various parts of the country, so it is not all being done all at once....so we'll just have to wait to receive the notification to start the update...here's the instructions you will receive in the notification....

Any word on the Bluetooth HandsFree dial support? Or is that going to be the January update (or later)?
OP explain how slider works to ulock screen
I would rather be able to change the whole slider thing. I get the idea but don't like having to drag my finger across the screen to unlock it. I don't like having to do it to answer phone calls either. It makes it difficult to answer the phone while driving or to unlock the screen while doing other things. In otherwords it is difficult to do anything one handed on this phone. It seems to read my palm on the lower right while I try to do stuff on the left and it doesn't register a full motion. More a problem with the design of my hand with this phone but there should be a way to adjust that. I mean isn't the whole thing about Android the ability to customize it.
My understanding and I hope this is very wrong is that yesterday at noon 1,000 phones got updates. Last night at midnight 9,000 phones got update notifications and then there will be a 48 hour waiting period before it starts 200,000 a night at around midnight every night till they are all updated. I hope it is just a regional thing and it will roll out a little smoother than that but aside from the there won't be one tonight but it will start again tomorrow night seems a bit odd to me other than that it kind of makes sense they have to test the system then a little bigger test then adjustments and massive roll out a little at a time to not crush the network.
I don't have the update yet, but hope to get it today or tomorrow. Sounds like they're sending out the updates a little at a time. I like the unlock bar as it is, but will see how the new version works before providing an opion. I sort of like the idea of locking the screen so things don't go on randomly. If you haven't obtained an Bluetooth FM tuner for your car, you need to do this! I play Pandora & Slicker over my car speakers & it's just incredible! Love my Droid!
Mine updated last night at approx. 11:00pm...............everything is fine so far!!! Joe
what brand and where did you get you FM transmitter?
IM near allentown so if this update is going by region I havent gotten it yet.
<- Is tremendously jealous that you all have the 2.0 Update.
I wish I could manually install it

I thought you ended up getting an iPhone? Anyway I hope the updates aren't going like they said. If they are I am figuring they are going by ESN. Because there is at least one guy with two phones one updated the other didn't and he bought both at the same time on the same account and activated them on the same day.
I can understand staggering the OTA upgrades so that it doesn't tax the network too much at once...
But the updates really should be available online for tethered update (or via wifi on the device) for those of us who don't want to wait and aren't afraid to do it ourselves!!
How does the screen unlock now with update????????
I was not in the initial 10,000 update batch yesterday, so I guess I have to wait 48 hours for update.
However, I did see in the Motorola forum, someone had an issue after the update which they thought was related to the Handcent SMS application. Claimed it was slowing down their phone.
Has anyone else that has done the update experienced any issues with any of your downloaded Apps? I hope there is not an issue with the Handcent SMS app since it is much more featured than the native message app.
Yuck. If I wanted an iPhone slider I'd have bought an iPhone. Even friends with iPhones liked the old one better than what's on the iPhone.

I did. And then I returned it even if I actually have to suffer through a worse signal.
I can't stand the iPhone. Had it for a week and had to go back.
Here is the manual install

Thanks for this link... I saw another article on PhoneArena, but the update.zip was hosted by a comcast.net user, which I was not comfortable with!
At least these instructions give you the link to download directly from Google.
It worked for me, took less than 5 mins. I had to reboot twice... after the first reboot, the system was very sluggish... so i let it sit for a few minutes, and powered it off and then back on again, and now everything is working normally.
I just updated my phone on my own using a website that can't be named here...
It was easy to do and the phone is DRAMATICALLY faster. Both in overall operations and in web browsing (I use the Dolphin browser). I wasn't having any camera issues before, so I didn't notice any change there.
Opened all my most active apps. No problems. Looks like a solid update.
Timely updates that improve performance? Google is sure doing a great job of helping Verizon look competenet (or less incompetent). I owned a Moto Q for 2.5 years and never saw an update...

I couldn't resist the temptation to upgrade early either. I am posting this from my freshly upgraded Droid and so far everything is running very smoothly. I haven't tried the camera yet but from what I've read it's significantly improved.
My manually updated Droid is working great... although I'm not quite digging the straight unlock slider, or the Droid-ish font on the lock screen clock. Although I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.
I did notice that the Market no longer has the "Verizon" tab, but now shows "Downloads" beside "Apps" and "Games". Can anyone confirm if this is the case with the OTA push update as well?
I'm wondering if the update I downloaded from Google per the instructions may be a generic update that lacks some of the specific Verizon branding (or other Verizon "features")... or if it actually is the same update file being pushed OTA?
So, can anyone tell me when I'll be getting the upgrade? Is there a schedule? I live in the DC area.
I figure I could do the manual upgrade, but I'd hate to take any risk of screwing up my phone and breaking the warranty, and don't mind waiting, but I'd like to get an idea of when it will happen.

Same here. I'm just up the road from you and no update yet. I also do not want to risk the manual update. I guess those of us in the large metropolitan areas might be the last to get the upgrade.

Oddly enough, a guy in my office and I both got our Droids the first day they came out, at the same Best Buy Mobile store, and our numbers are in the same area code. But he got his OTA update the first day they were out and I still haven't gotten mine. But I'd rather wait than go the manual route.
The other day I read that they were doing 10000 updates the first day and then waiting 48 hours to begin full deployment. It said then that once full deployment starts that they would do 200,000 per day until all done. So the mass push should be beginning in the next day or so if the information was accurate.
While I am anxious to test the new release, I plan to wait tor the OTA just for warranty issues, although it seems many have done the manual update without issue.
I tried so hard to wait for the update but I couldnt do it. I was tired of waiting last night lol. So today I downloaded it myself. It was so easy anybody can do it so here r the directions for yall
Below are the instrcutions for applying 2.0.1 manually without waiting for OTA Update.
Your DROID is now running 2.0.1 instantly without waiting.
It is that easy and it is running better than ever. definitely faster and the voice quality is much better. So for those that cant wait like me here is a fix. have fun ohhhh and for the rest of the tech heads out there.[edit]
Well, I got the download this morning while driving to work.
One odd thing - it looks like my phone decided to download weather bug and some weather widget (Android Apps, it was called) costing me 3 bucks. Well, I have no interest in the apps, so I uninstalled them, but did anyone else see this happen?
Have to wait but I would back up my contacts first! I lost some of mine when I got the update this morning.

I'm still waiting for the update as well. After replacing my Droid twice,. it seems that I finally have a phone that works properly. I don't want to risk it by maunally updating.

in the androidforums.net, they talk about people losing some of their contacts that were associated with FB. however, they also tell you how to retrieve them. you did not lose them
it's a sticky forum for the update.
