Droid 2 Global and Exchange Calendar

I am looking to upgrade my BB to the new D2 Global but need good Exchange integration.  From what I have read the new D2G does what I need by using Active Sync to push/sync the D2G with Exchange email, contacts and calendar.  However, the local Verizon Wireless sales person was 100% positive that the calendar sync has to be done through Google calendar.  This is not an acceptable option for me.

Can anyone confirm if Exchange calendar sync with the D2G is done through the Exchange Active Sync?  Or Google calendar?

Thanks.

The DROID 2 provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail.

Well...., if Exchange email is important to the original poster,  you should be aware of threads such as:

https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/40791?tstart=0   (Droid Pro / Droid 2 Global owners:  How is corporate sync working for you?)

with a lively discussion between users of the Global/X/Pro and Motorola.   Motorola agree that there is an issue (sync stops working) at least for many users, and are working on a fix.  Many on that forum are returning the phones during the 30 day period, either for HTC Android phones (which don't seem to have this issue) or Blackberries, until the issue can be fixed and pushed.
