Droid 2 Global keyboard/screen freezing and disappearing

I am on my third droid 2 global in less than a year. I am beyond fed up and frustrated! The first one had a bad battery. The next one kept freezing and opening things on its own, and half of the screen wasn't working. The third one that I am currently experiencing problems with doesn't allow me to type more than 1 or 2 letters at a time whether on the keyboard or the touch screen keyboard. If I hit the spacebar in particular the whole phone freezes and I have to shut the screen off or sometimes the entire phone to reopen the text message. I have tried taking the battery out, and the factory restart...neither have worked. Any suggestions?

The great news is that there is a software update that is being worked on by software developers. The semi-bad news is that I don't have a date as to when this will be released.
This update will correct the issue that is happening with they keyboard freezing & disappearing.
In the meantime you can follow the steps below which will help.
menu*
setting language and keyboard *
multi touch keyboard*
vibrate on key press*
touch clear learned words*
go back to home screen*
menu*
setting*
app*manage app*
all tab *
muti touch keyboard*
clear cache and data

I've been having the exact same issue for almost a week. To be honest, ever since I download the update my phone hasn't acted right. It give me a black screen without warning. The battery is very weak and the lights on the keypad don't come on half of the time. I really don't have time for this... ![]()

I have had those issues too since the update but didn't think much about them. The keyboard issue just started today, and I'm going to go to the verizon store tomorrow. I'm completely fed up with this stupid phone!

Somebody provided a method to fix the issue before, you could have a try.
"When the stock multi-touch keyboard freezes, acts funny, etc. go to:
Menu > Manage apps > All > Multi-Touch keyboard > Clear data [and clear Cache if it's not 0]
Others have found that turning off "Next word prediction" in the Multi-Touch keyboard settings also seems to help prevent keyboard freezes.
Menu > Settings > Language & Keyboard > Multi-Touch keyboard > Next word prediction"

Tamara, you are a goddess!
After almost 3 months of suffering with a barely usable phone since the gingerbread update, I finally today it got so bad that I couldn't take it anymore and made time to dredge the internet for solutions. I didn't just have keyboard problems, I had problems with the entire user interface locking up, detecting spurious inputs, randomly scrolling, inserting random words into my texts... the list goes on. It was so bad it took me almost over 30 minutes to navigate the menus to follow your directions, but it was well worth it. Now my phone is almost back to the glorious perfection I had enjoyed for over a year before this horrendous update was forced upon me (the touch screen calibration seems to be a bit off, but I can deal with that for now since I have a hardware keyboard).
On a more serious note, though... it's been three months and your developers are still "working on it"? Are you kidding me? As a professional software engineer, I'm appalled. If I broke things this badly and didn't have at least a basic patch ready within 24 hours I would be fired, and the stuff I work on doesn't affect anyone's life to anywhere near the extent a smart phone does. Someone needs to crack the whip on those guys.

I have done all of the above, been on the phone with tech support etc.. Clearing the cache is only a temporary fix, as well as shutting off next word prediction. I think I have been through all of the steps & as of the a few weeks ago, a replacement phone that is now also acting up & freezing.. I pay 200.00 plus for my service with Verizon & been with Verizon since approx 2007 since my contract date I went through 5 Blackberry's & 3 Droid's, it wasn't because of my lack of taking care of my equipment either...
I get the droid & I thought it was fantastic for the most part until Motorola launched there update. I am not trying to be rude by any means, just saying I do business work through my phone & it needs to be reliable. If I don't get paid cause I can't do my job, guess who's last on my list to get paid?... Verizon. If it gets shut off, doesn't matter.. Phone only works sometimes anyways...
Again, not trying to be rude. Just frustrated.
Nontheless I know this isn't your fault directly, I would just like to go back before the software update until they are able to fix this.

I tried the solution posted by TamaraH_VZW and it immediately fixed the issue. I went to try to finish a draft of an email that I could not even type because of the disappearing and freezing keyboard and I am now able to type.
I hope this solution lasts and truly fixed the issue.
Now if only all the other issues I've had with my Droid 2 Global were this easy to resolve.

as others find clearing caches, the op works; find a way to stop these 2 issues automatically and problem solved. otherwise use app--constantly tocleat data and stop apps.
