Due for an upgrade from BB Storm.  Will the Droid 2 Global work in Afghanistan and is the pricing additional to my current plan or do I change to international plan?

That might be a question for customer service. However if the gsm bands available on the the phone will work in that location, I would think the international plan would work. IMHO.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Get the GSM unlocked from Global Services.  Then you can use a local SIM from a haji mart.  You'll still have to pay your VZW account.  Or, you could get the global plan and get "reduced" rates on GSM calls.

Coverage and rates are available at

The Global Value plan gets you a discount on airtime for $5 a month.  It's worth it if you actually use the air time.  Your best bet is a local SIM card or a global SIM.  I use GEO Sim which lets you use the phone almost anywhere and includes plans with data and text messaging (they also have voicemail).  The rates are much better (half or less than Verizon Global).  You will need to unlock the phone, or you can buy a GSM unlocked phone pretty cheap on Amazon.

I have a droid 2 global, I didn't get the international plan, just told them to suspend my service and right now i'm deployed to Afghanistan, I had to buy a local sim card then call verizon for the SIM unlock code and then I was good to go. But now (2 weeks later) for some reason I can only send and receive text messages, It wont make phone calls any longer. I know its not the SIM because it works in other unlocked phones just find.

Hello,

International provisioning for your device needs to be activated in order for your services to work out of the country.  Since you are not in the United States, please call 1-908-559-4899 from an alternate phone for assistance. Please have your device with you, fully charged when you call.

We look forward to hearing from you directly so we can assist in setting up your International Services.  For more information on International Roaming, please visit the link below:

Thank you.
