Droid 2 WiFi problems

Hello,
I just got a wireless router for my high-speed Internet connection at home through Comcast. I know it works because both my laptop and my friend's laptop connect to it just fine. I can get my Droid 2 to connect to it, but then it keeps cycling and disconnecting, reconnecting, connecting, disconnecting ... repeatedly.
How can I get the phone to stay connected to my home wifi? BTW it is a secured network, password protected. And I have been able to successfully connect my Droid 2 to my friend's password protected wifi at his house. Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Yeah, same problem here with my Brighthouse setup. They provided the router when I got my service back in 2009. It's an old archaic router that was discontinued from Netgear years ago. Not complaining as it was free (well, not really since I actually pay for it as part of my monthly bill) but hey, I can't update firmware for it because it's that old. It's an "N" only router. Apparently, from what I've read, the Droid 2 only sees routers that are "G" routers and so maintaining the connection was impossible. Do you know what type of router you have? Some of the things I've read said to switch the router to "G" only if possible.
Apparently the new GB update is supposed to fix this problem. *crossing fingers* That's what I'm hoping for myself anyway. We'll see how that goes. If you can hold out for the GB update, I'd do that. See if that fixes the WiFi issues. If not, perhaps look at your router after that. (I actually have a BH tech coming out to replace my archaic router tomorrow because my laptop is losing connection now. Maybe they'll get it together finally and I'll get upgraded to a decent dual-band. LOL We'll see.)

What kind of router did you get for your Comcast set-up? Did they provide it or did you purchase it?

my linksys wrt54g router will connect to the phone with wep encryption but not wpa.
cody21 has the same router but different software version & he connects with wpa.
i would imagine that encryption is different than your friend's & why you can access his network..

Mama2KBR, thanks for your answer. I looked at my router and it is an N. So that would explain the issue. I also just discovered that that GB update of which you speak IS available! I am downloading it right now as I type this. I would love to report on it, but it's a loooooong download, so it's going to take a while. But if this new Android 2.3 OS can handle the N router, I will be soooooo happy! I'll follow up soon and let you know.
Thanks again!

Mama2KBR, you hit the nail on the head! I just installed the Gingerbread Android 2.3 update, and now I can connect to my wi-fi with no problem at all! You rock! Thanks again.

My wifi problems started happening after the GB update. The router is fairly new, less than a year old. I connected to it before just fine but now I lose connection every now and then.

Hi michellemmmm,
I understand your concerns with your Wi-Fi connection being lost every now and then. Please note that when an OS update is performed on your phone some system files may become incompatible with some apps and features. Historically, a Factory Reset has resolved most of our customers post OS update concerns including Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Please do a Factory Reset and keep us posted.
Keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

Don't feel bad michelle. I was hoping that the GB update would fix my WiFi issues. I still can't connect to and maintain a WiFi connection. I couldn't before the GB update and I can't after the GB update. The only difference now is that I get to see the connection start and stop in 2 colors, blue & white, every once in a while instead of just one like before. Connecting to a WiFi signal was one of the first things I tried to do when I got my phone before there were any "3rd party apps" on it because I thought it was pretty "cool" and because, dernit never had a phone that could do that before. Any "3rd party apps" that would be on it would have been the bloatware that Verizon installed anyway. *sigh*

@landers,
I understand how inconvenient this can be and I'm here to help.
Are you still having issues with the WiFi connection on your Droid X 2? Are you having this problem with all WiFi connections or just one specific connection? Do you have other devices connected to the same WiFi connection experiencing the same issue?
If this happens again try a soft reset. This will usually refresh the device and you should be able to establish that WiFi connection. Please try this and post back if you continue to experience this issue. I'll be happy to further assist.
