Droid 2 global home screen glitching?

I recieved my first droid 2 global and after about an hour of using it, the home screen would start flipping to another screen about every 2 seconds. And it would always be the last thing I selected. For example, if I was looking at my contacts and hit the "home" icon, it would go to the home screen for a few seconds and then flip back to my contacts and continue doing this everytime I selected "home." It would also not let me get to the app screen at all.

I did run a virus scan, nothing came up and I didn't download a single app. About all I did was set up facebook for android and add a few contacts.

I took it to a verizon store and the man there had no idea what it was, so after putzing with my phone for an hour including doing a factory reset, he said they'd send me a new one.

BUT I had the same problem with the second phone and I'm completely frustrated and clueless. Anyone have any insight?

I've heard of some strange screen behavior related to having virus scanners on the phone. You might try removing that.

I had this issue before I installed a virus scanner. Actually the guy at verizon put lookout on my phone.

I've had a Droid 2 for the last year and loved it... Until they upgraded the software and then, nothing works right. I just received my first replacement and I can't even unlock the damn thing. So I guess if I can't even dial emergency services if necessary, I know who will receive a law suit! Ugh. so... very... frustrated...

I have had my Droid 2 Global for about 2 years now and I never had any problems with it until they did the upgrade/update a few months ago. THE UPGRADE/UPDATE WAS A DOWNGRADE...boooooooooooooooooo!!!

My Droid 2 locks me out of my own phone, while in the middle of a text or phone call it just decides to lock itself.

Unlocking my phone is a pain because the touch screen glitches as I try to draw in my lock pattern.

I had problem with my droid 2 global to. it also wont lock lock on to a cell or 3G signal. while on a weekend getaway with my wife and some other couple I have the only verizon phone who couldn't get a cell or 3g signal all week and even while at home or at work same thing, i work outside in a big metro. city.

So why would you NOT think that the drop on the floor caused your problems??

If you think the UPGRADE of the OS was a problem for you, I think you can revert back to your previous version. Search for that. And maybe re-do the upgrade after it's working again with the old OS.

I have barely had mine for 1 and a half... and it simply refuses to allow me to use at this point. I pay too much money to verizon to be treated like this! I absolutely hate it... I loved the phone up until now even with the issues I have had throughout its use. Its been nothing but grief honestly. I wouldn't even desire to give it to a homeless person for use. It should be smashed up and melted down, the only good pieces being straight metal and take them for use in a better freaken phone.

I had a good first year with droid 2 global.

After that and I think after the 2.3 android upgrade things started going totally wrong.

I can not use the phone sometimes due the screen keeps moving and phone started behaving crazy and open applications and click on things by itself. I don't see a point of having a phone if you can not use it.

So why consumers had to pay the price when manufacturers like Motorola and Android don't check comparability.

Also I guess Motorola is the worse manufacturer when it comes to touch screen technology, the touch screen got affected by humidity so much.

Yeah the factory reset doesn't help. I'm on my third Droid 2 Global all with the same problem. The last time a verizon employee F'd with my phone for an hour and a half did the factory reset without telling me wiping all my contacts and then told me there was a paint chip on the side so they can't replace it. It's a manufacturer defect. Lets hope Google turns Motarola around but I doubt it and untill then we're without a phone service we're paying money for..

I already bought a new phone... I seriously refuse to pay almost 100 dollars on a phone I cannot use at all. The screen issue was THAT bad that I simply could not use it at all and my desire to throw it out into the four lane high way and watch it disappear was great.

Verizon is just lucky that this HTC phone has wood me or I'd have used my old phone and completely dropped them come the first of the year. Too expensive to sit here with a phone I can't use.

I also sent my phone in to Trade-ins with verizon. I probably should have checked elsewhere for something better because its only appraised at 30 dollars. Don't expect your money back people.

I am now having the same issues and it began with a software update.I cannot believe that all of the people on here are having this issue, and neither Motorola or Verizon is owning up to this. Not good!

I had the glitching problem when I first bought the phone. I then later discovered that when the humidity is high the phone starts to jump around from screen to screen. Try taking the phone to a place where the humidity is normal. I've had the Droid 2 for almost 2 years and had no problems. Its the best phone I've ever had.

I would like to know why the Technicians at Verizon stores (not Zoom stores) are either unaware of this issue or pretending it does not exist? My phone is possessed. It will just strart opening apps, typing gibberish into search boxes, starts Shazam, the music player, my Audible.com app, etc. Then it freezes so I can't do anything. I have to lock and unlock the screen to unfreeze it, and hope it does not start acting up again.

I went to the Verizon store yesterday and I'm told that I have to pay $30, in addition to the cost of the phone, if I want to upgrade my phone. I realize that if I had insurance, I would not have to pay for a new phone, but, this issue is CLEARLY a manufacturer defect, seeing that so many people are affected by the same issues. Verizon and Motorola need to step up and assist their customers with this issue or in replacing their phone. I have been a Verizon customer for 12 years and have never had any problems before. This paying $30 to upgrade, and support techs acting as if the phone problem is not wide spread, is making me think about going to Sprint or AT&T. And, I will never buy a Motorola phone again if someone doesn't step up and acknowledge this problem. I am on my company's Verizon plan, but I WILL change my carrier and pay the bill myself if I don't get some resolution that is satisfactory. I almost purchased a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx yesterday, for $299 plus the $30 upgrade fee! I'm glad I thought better of it now that I've seen all these posts.

I've been with Verizon for almost 10 and this is the first time I have encountered not only this kind of mechanical issue, but absolutely the worst customer service ever. One of my students is also experiencing a similar issue with her motorola droid, and everything began with her about a month ago, which coincided with mine and another friend's droid behaving erratically. All I can say is, if these companies don't own up to this problem very quickly, they will either face some kind of class action issue, or loss of customers. Quite frankly, their competitors are beginning to look like a viable alternative at this point.

Glad to know the factory reset is useless. I have been having problems for nearly two weeks now. Guess it's time to find another phone.

I have been having this exact same problem for weeks now. The screen starts scrolling on its own, opening apps, making calls, etc. It's ridiculous. Verizon is horrible for customer service. I have insurance on my phone, but I still have to pay $99 to get another phone that isn't even a new phone! Are you kidding me?! They looked at my phone and said the battery cover was bent slightly so they woudn't replace it for free. It was bent when I got it because it was a crappy refurbished phone! And it isn't even really bent! They even documented that when I got it. Why have I been paying them extra money if they won't even do anything? I was told up front that it didn't matter what happened to my phone, including visible damage (short of being in a million pieces), with insurance it would be replaced FREE of charge. This is not the first time that verizon has screwed me over. They seriously need to reach a consensus among the employees because every single one says a different thing. I hate that I live in the middle of no where so Verizon is the only cell phone carrier that works here! I cannot even use my phone now, and I am due for an upgrade in September, so apparently the extra $168 dollars I have given them counts for nothing. Verizon is horrible.

Humidity and moisture sensitivity is the correct answer. I have 3 Droid-2 Globals
on my family account since they came out. We have found that this phone is
HIGHLY sensitive to moisture. The top area of the phone that goes against your
ear is Exceedingly Sensitive to moisture on your hair and ear due to perspiration.
If you touch the phone to your ear and there is the slightest bit of moisture
the phone will start freaking out. The screen starts jumping all over the
place. The phone app starts trying to dial all kinds of numbers. You can't get the
screen unlocked and on and on. Once this happens the only thing you can do is
take the battery out and literally let it dry out or suck air through the ear
speaker grill to dry it out quickly and re install the battery.

To avoid the problem altogether, I put the phone in speaker mode and hold
the back side of the phone to my head to talk as needed or use the Blue Tooth
ear piece. I hate the Blue Tooth ear piece and never use it myself.

I am looking forward to November when I can swap two of these phones out for
the latest greatest. My son has already upgraded his to the Droid-4 and loves
it with no glitches so far.

I have always had a screen protector on the phone, so can't be that. But to hear that the screen is that sensitive to moisture is even worse, as one would think that Motorola would have anticipated such usage, and designed their product to be able to better resist such an issue.

When I get some information on the customer service dept of Motorola regarding this issue, I will share and hope you all will write the company regarding this problem.

Give me a break. You guys know dang (Srtonger Language needed here) well that this phone has a moisture
sensitivity issue at the ear piece area of the phone that causes it to freak
out and do astonishingly crazy things at the mere slightest contact with an ear
that is even the slightest bit damp from perspiration. It is a manufactures
design flaw and is not fixable other than to keep the dang thing from touching
your ear if you are the least but warm!

The screen is not the problem really. It is the narrow area at the top part
the face of the phone surrounding the narrow ear speaker grill. This area has a
sensor to detect when the phone comes in contact with your skin which turns the
touch screen blank so that you do not hit buttons during a phone call. It is this
area of the phone which by default must come in contact with your ear to use
the phone normally that has the sensitivity to any moisture.

I agree that everyone should complain to Motorola. But of course these
phones are out of date now so won't make much of an impact I'm afraid.

Not complain because the model is "out of date?" Motorola had issues with some of their products before, and their stock dropped like a stone in water. The issue is, and should always be, is a company going to frustrate the consumer with an "oh well" kind of attitude, or will they engender loyalty as in the days of old. Why should I pay for a product which does not work correctly, and continue to buy from a company unwilling to acknowlege its mistakes, and stand up for correcting said mistakes? This is where competition truly is beneficial, because show me a company who won't, and I'll show you one which will...

Just got Verizon to move up my upgrade date and let me get a new phone. Was on my 4th Droid 2 global with the same problem. They finally admitted that there is an inherent problem with his phone and Motorola is not willing to update the software to correct it. It simply is a bad phone. Verizon needs to come clean, or tell Motorola to fix or replace. I think they hope that they would be out long enough that everyone's upgrade date would get here and take care of the problem for them. The problem with the phone is a Motorola problem, Verizon's problem is not sticking up for their customers. Squeaky wheel gets greased. Insist on a replacement with a new model or allow an immediate upgrade.

It's time then for everyone to write Motorola directly. That company should be more than willing to exchange the Droid 2 for a 4 for all who have been inconvenienced.I have posted on their social media about this with no response. However, when people no longer buy their products, they'll get it. I hear I phone is pretty good.

I to have had mine for about a year and half and I am having these same issues. I'm tired of my phone being possessed and freakin out when I need it the most. I pay verizon way to much money to be told for every issue to just do a factory reset. I'm tired of verizon and the outrageous bills. I have been with them for over 7 years and I am starting to think all the people who are converting to straight talk are just plain smart. I am at my wits end here! I am about to just tear the ****** phone up and cancel completely!!!

Most of the problems described in this thread can be attributed to a hardware fault. Specifically, intermittent failure of the touch screen digitizer. I was having the screen jumping around randomly, and at its worst the screen was completely unresponsive to touch (meaning I couldn't unlock to place calls, etc.). Phone was some 20 months in service when this started, and had been dropped more than once. However, when symptoms began there had been no known trauma.

At any rate, I replaced the touch screen digitizer and all is working flawlessly now. The handy among you can do the same, following instructional videos on YouTube and searching for the needed parts and tools on-line. (In addition to digitizer assembly, you will need T5 and T3 screwdrivers and new, super-thin, double-sided tape specific to cell phone applications. Google is your friend.) Know that this is not an easy fix, and you need careful attention to detail and skill working with small parts/tools.

Thanks for the information, but that is not a practical answer. If there is a problem that the manufacturer knows about, they should take care of it, and not force the customer to find "alternatives" to their issue. Cars go bad, there's a recall issued. The consumer doesn't go about "fixing" a widespread manufacturing defect. That's insane.

It is entirely unrealistic to expect such a complex electronic instrument to function flawlessly, indefinitely, exposed as it is to a broad range of environmental conditions, shock, and other adversities. It is also unrealistic to expect Motorola to "recall" a product for a fault that doesn't present a threat of physical harm to the user, even if this fault affects many units and has been established to have resulted from a design flaw. Not even car manufacturers issue recalls under such circumstances. Faults such as these are what the warranty is intended to address.

Myself, I find little basis for complaint. Things break. Good luck with your phone. I hope you find resolution.

if you call "indefinitely" less than 2 years an unreasonable expectation for a device to operate, then I wonder why these companies spend any time testing their product. Just put it out there to fail a couple of days after a warranty expires, because it is designed to do so. If you choose to constantly repair at your expense, someone else's failings, have at it. Oh, and one should expect a recall when a product is an annoyance as well as a potential health hazard.

Glad you don't have basis for complaints. Enjoy spending time correcting manufacturing defects.

I have to agree whole heartedly.

I pay way too much to have a phone that doesn't work or to be treated like its entirely my fault. I did everything they told me to do on the phone and nothing worked at all. It was really depressing for me to lose a bunch of my information.

If I knew how I think I would. To be honest, I don't expect to be buying another Motorola phone again and I will not be recommending their phones to anyone. I did not enjoy this experience between my phone and Verizon.

I bought a Motorola Droid at the start of my contract. I am now on my 4th replacement phone and the Droid 2 is still crashing, freezing or just plain freaking out. Verizon and Google should rename Verizon Motorola Droid 2, Droid Bionic, Droid X, etc the FreakaDroid series because these Droids freak out all the time and cause us owners to freak out because we are paying for this. Resets don't work. You can't get rid of applications because Verizon says it violates the contract - even if Verizon marketing apps are part of the problem.

What does Verizon offer me? Another refurbished Motorola Droid or pay $349 to get an iPhone. Verizon claims that it has no obligation to protect its contract customers. Is this at all fair?

I sent Motorola, what I thought, was a nice letter explaining the situation I, along with many others, have experienced with their product. I thought I would have received a response from the company. However, after over a month, nothing! I guess customer satisfaction means nothing, so it's on to another product.

Just been forced into taking another refurbished Motorola Droid. I am sure my 6th Motorola Droid (5th replacement) will work the same as the rest - another FreakaDroid (formerly known as the Verizon Motorola Droid 2, etc) that will crash, freeze, freak out, etc. I can't wait until I get out of my contract.

Quick survey - what is this community's running count of Droid replacements?

Yeah that would be the part I opted out of. All the refurbished phones they had were as expensive as a new phone... and I know staying with the droid 2 would be a disaster... Ended up getting a new phone. Not Motorola. I have to agree though, When I can, I am not likely to stay with a contract. It's not worth all the hassle.

Freaking had to "register" just to READ this thread and a few others...

Ever since I had a conversation on a really hot day the right edge of the screen has been wonky. I haven't been able to open my apps, or anything along the right side. What really makes me mad is there is no real fix, and there isn't another decent phone with a physical slide out keyboard to replace it with. Phone manufacturers assume us with really thick callous fingers can actually type on a fucking screen. IT DOESN'T WORK, ANY OF THEM!!!
