Droid Charge

That's going to be an unfortunate choice of a name if the battery life proves to be a problem. I don't think Marketing people always think things through as they should.

the reviews have been pretty positive about the battery life.

I thought the numbers looked good. I have the only other 4g phone Verizon sells which has a worse battery then the charge.
things that might contribute.

1 dim the brightness
2 don't have the screen on always on
3 hot spot takes juice.
4 in and out of signal or if u use 4g.
5 background apps

Kinda makes it not worth having the phone if you have to turn everything off... I have the Charge for 7 days... I send a couple text messages a day on average maybe 25... maybe 3-5 phone calls, and read several emails that I might have received... BUT mostly I am sliding the puzzle piece into the other to see if I have any new messages, emails or missed calls since Samsung decided not to include an LED to let you know that you have a new message, email or missed a call how stupid is that... anyway by the end of the day I have to CHARGE it up again... so the name fits this phone as it seems I am always putting it on charge.

Good Luck

I don't need longer than a day, but in a recent case, a day turned out to be 10 hours or less with very minimal use.  I was driving in my car with bluetooth, but didn't make any calls.

The only thing I can figure is that I was driving through some areas with no 4G and overall fringe coverage of any type.  Maybe the battery got used up with searching, going in and out of coverage, etc.  (I don't know how long it lasted, just that it was totally dead 10 hours after charging.)

If I keep this phone, I'll just get another battery (and probably the car charger).

get the "LTE OnOff" app" and when you are driving or in areas that you aren't sure about, you can disable 4g all together. it significantly helps with the issue you appeared to have that day. i actually leave 4g nearly all of the time. i activate it when i want to download a large file or skype video someone.

Thanks for the idea to turn off LTE.  I should have thought of that because I knew I wasn't in a 4G area.  I've already done it.  At least I think it can be done on the Charge without an extra app.  I think that's one of the differences between the Tbolt and Charge.

Followup on my previous report of quick battery drain when travelling:

I turned the system selection from LTE automatic to CDMA mode.  After the return trip over the same route, I still had 70+% battery -- instead of fulling draining the battery in about half the outbound trip.

Thanks for the very effective suggestion.

robbie.....you can set reminders so it vibrates or beeps or whatever you want, every so many minutes, until you check your email, texts, etc. if the charge doesn't have the feature built in, then there are apps that you can use (i like "missed call deluxe"). at least this way your not constantly waking it up to check. i GOTTA have the led. i don't know why every manufacturer doesn't include these???

Have had the Charge since Saturday , and getting in a full day of charge..7am to about 1am . Texting alot, several phone calls a day, checking emails, twitter, and facebook. I turn off the screen as soon as I'm done , as this is the one thing that eats up most of your battery. I do not have anything set to receive automatically . These are little computers , which get alot more battery life than your Laptop.

The phone will let you know when it is in the locked mode if you have missed any phone calls and how many. It also lets you know if you have any text messages waiting to be read. The emails don't display, but as soon as you unlock the phone, the top menu bar will let you know if you have any emails, that's if you have programmed your email accounts into the phone.

There's a app that I have recently bumped into called noled. This app is designed for phones that ship without LED Status lights. This is one of my must have's coming from the previous Moto Droid phones. Thank god I found this app. You can set it to show a blinking icon that bounces around the screen for different things including new text messages, calls, emails and other types of alerts. Fully customizable and even shows you a tiny number in the upper right corner of the icon that's bouncing so you know how many emails you have waiting. Also when you plug your phone in and lock the screen it gives you a battery percentage.

Funny story I brought my sister into a Verizon store to buy the HTC Thunderbolt and my Droid Charge was out of charge (I recenly discovered I have a bad battery because it doesn't even last 8 hours without doing any kind of activity on the phone) So I asked the rep behind the counter if I can use some electricity to Charge my Charge. She plugged in my phone and saw the bouncing percentage and asked me why my phone does that, She had never seen that before and she has the Droid Charge. I joked with her saying "I thought all the phones did that" and laughed. I hadn't realized it was the noled app at the time.

If you'd like to try out the noled app I highly recommend it for the Droid Charge as well as any other Android device that does not come with a LED Status light. It can be found in the Android market by searching for "noled" or if you'd like to install it from the market's website here's the link https://market.android.com/details?id=com.led.notify&feature=search_result

I hope this helps the person who unlocks his phone constantly to check for new alerts such as emails, texts & calls.

I have noticed one thing though as a side note. I have installed GO SMS myself being a long time user of the app and it seems to take away the functionality of displaying the missed text puzzle piece on the lock screen. I was wondering if that little icon was directly related to the stock Droid Charge messaging app. I like being able unlock my phone and going straight to the missed calls or missed text from the puzzle unlock screen and wonder if there's some kind of work around to do this with the GOSMS app. I use this app because it pop's up a little window with a reply box over whatever i'm using instead of opening the app entirely to answer a text. Maybe it's this littel window that pops up over the lock screen that disabled the puzzle piece. Closing the window with the X in the upper right corner appears to mark the text as read. I'll have to research this a little and report back my findings.

my battery life is very good. Full day no problems.

from the home screen, pull down the top menu bar and turn off (de-select) GPS. That might help your issue
