Droid Inc 2: Data usage widget/My Verizon App forced upgrade loop and forced close problem

I just purchased a Droid Incredible 2.  When I tried to use the Data Usage Widget (preloaded), it sent me to the App Store where my only choice was to update the My Verizon App.  Once the update is installed, trying to open the app just pops up a message that says an update is available and sends me back to the App Store.  Clicking on the install again, I get an error message:

"Sorry!  The application My Verizon Mobile (process com.vzw.hss.myverizon) has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again."

This error message will appear each time the phone wakes up.  To get rid of it, I have to go into Settings>Applications>Manage applications>My Verizon Mobile.  The Force stop button does nothing.  I hit Clear data>OK, then Uninstall updates>OK>OK>OK

There are dozens (hundreds?) of similar comments on the reviews for the My Verizon Mobile app as of today (6/27/2011).

Has anyone found a fix?

Well. For some crazy reason it has now decided to upgrade as needed and begin working just fine. Not sure if it will help anyone else who is having an issue, but all I did was completely reset my phone, and upon turning it back on, the first thing I did once I was to the desktop on the phone, was take care of the My Verizon app setup. After doing the manual update it asked for, and then doing the upgrade for the app it asked for after, I simply restarted my phone, and poof, now it's working just fine.

Not sure why it seemed to be acting so tempremental to get the app updated and running the first few times I tried, buut it's just fine now. Just a little finicky I guess on how you go about taking care of the update/upgrade.

Hopefully this helps a bit for anyone else having an issue.

By reboot mobius I believe the Rep is refering to shutting down the phone and turning it back on. If this doesn't work, try completely restting the phone back to factory defaults, something I have been avoiding doing again as this means you need to completely set the phone up again which once you have it set to your liking can be a bit of a pain. But, after completely resetting the phone, then try the whole application update/upgrade. I'll try it again myself here in a few to see if I can get a fix.

Just got my Dinc 2 on Friday. Had the same issue. Went back to the store and they fixed it. They took the battery out and put it back in. It was a hard reboot. App works fine now.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your inquiry.  It sounds like you have already done quite a bit of troubleshooting to get this resolved. You mentioned you uninstalled updates. Try rebooting the phone and trying the app again. If not working go to the market and complete the update again. I am not showing any current alerts with the My Verizon app. There may have been some king of glitch at the time. Are you still having this issue?

I am having the exact same issue. Just got my Dinc 2 this week. I have tried everything the OP tried, plus what the Rep is suggesting here. Nothing works. I have tried to completely remove the widget, completely removed any updates for it, even completely rebooted my phone before doing the install/updates, nothing works. When I go to use it, it asks for a "Manual" update, which I do, after which it says it needs an upgrade, and that's it, I get stuck in a continuos upgrade loop.

Something is clearly wrong with either the application or the phone itself relating to this widget.

It would be nice to get a fix right away so myseflf and others can make use of the appication. Can still use it just fine on my PC, but would be nice to check it on my phone whenever I may want too.

COME ON VERIZON LET"S GET A FIX HERE! How can there be no apparent " alerts with the My Verizon app" when there are HUNDREDS of reported issues posted all over the community here about the issue? There is CLEARLY an issue with it.

Will update if I happen to figure out a resolution for the issue.

I am having this same problem and don't want to have to do a total reboot. Come on Verizon figure this out. Your reps don't have a good solution.
