Cannot hear ringtones, alert tones or notifications. I can still make calls and hear thru the earspeaker, and i can plug in headphones and hear thru them. just have to keep my phone on vibrate it sucks.
Hate to ask, but have you tried turning the volume back up? Just trying to cover all bases here and get the simple solutions out of the way first.
Yeah i tried everything. went as far as buying a replacement speaker from http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-droid-incredible-2-loud-speaker-replacement.html and still did not fix it. i love this phone just wish i could get sound without using headsets
When you hit the volume rocker, does it show the volume slider? If not, maybe your volume button is broken? Try menu>settings>sound>volume, and change it there. Otherwise, something (drivers maybe?) might not be working properly. Other than that, maybe somebody with an X can give you better tips.
Volume rocker works fine. how would i know if its a driver? its not rooted and still stock - recently updated to gingerbread.
Unfortunately, without root access, there is no way to tell. Seeing as you just got the update (I'm assuming this started happening after the update) you may need to do a factory data reset. Verizon tech support will suggest this also and, if you try it, remember that all your settings and on phone data will be erased. Your apps should re-install automatically and, assuming you are synced with your gmail, your contacts and some settings (wifi connections, bluetooth connections, etc.) should be returned, however, any in app data will be lost. May be worth it, though, I personally believe that updates go smoother if a reset is performed first.
It was doing it prior to the update. and ive done 2 factory resets so far.
mcnitt89,

I would like to look at your account for specific information and hardware assistance. Please send me a private message for further help.
Thank you!
Just found this thread. I'm having the same problem as this guy with the speakers. Was working fine one minute and now no ringtone, audio, and most importantly ALARM! Please help!
Thanks
Same issue folks. Problem started about 3 days ago. I really don't want a new phone. HEEEEEELP! I did all the same steps that have been suggested. No luck.
@ nicka0217 Wow! That is terrible that the sound is not working. Thanks to the community for responding. I have had this issue before with my phone. Have you tried to pull that battery from the phone? If that didn’t work, have you tried to do a master reset? If not here are the steps to do so:
I am certain that this measure will resolve your issue. Thanks.
Same problem here. On phone with Verizon for over an hour and they acted like I'm the only one having this problem. They did offer to let me purchase another phone for about $200. I'm so frustrated!
Same problem here. On phone with Verizon for over an hour and they acted like I'm the only one having this problem. They did offer to let me purchase another phone for about $200. I'm so frustrated! Any help would be appreciated. Only had this phone a few months and I've been a customer for over 11 years.
Had the same problem with mine. It also started going to car mode all on it's own, and changing screens. I swear the thing is possessed. Got a replacement today, hope it works better.
Got my new phone all set up, turned it on, used it for a few minutes, and now it won't even turn on. It's been charging all night and the light is still orange.
Same problem. No sound. All was good and now it's not...went to Verizon, did the factory reset as suggested after getting everything I could off the phone...and sound is back. Unfortunately, lost a lot of stuff that I couldn't back up. At least I have sound back.
Hello everyone. New replier to this post.
My Incredible 2's speaker stopped working one week ago. Checked everything I could on my end and finally went back to my Verizon store where they confirmed that my settings were correct. The Store removed the battery and performed a factory reset. No joy. Fortunately, I have a 2-year warranty so I am getting a replacement. However, last night I notice an automatic Verizon Update on my original phone. I didn't think much of this until a little later, I receive a call and my speaker (ring tone) started working fine.
So, has anyone else had a mysterious problem suddenly get resolved by an automatic update? First of all, I think this is great but I would have liked to know if this was a known problem.
I still think this is an awesome phone.
I have the same issue with the speaker not working. What is the solution?
I just developed this problem, too. What the heck is going on?
I'm having the same problem. All of a sudden,no ringtone. Volume control does not work. I do a restart on the phone, and it's back to normal. I'm missing calls. Also, it goes into car mode by itself. I didn't even know it had a car mode
Will this reset erase everything?
My phone also just started going into car mode a couple days ago.
Hello montco_customer,I would love to assist you with your device. Have you had a chance to reset your device previously suggested by SammuelP? Please let me know your post test results. Thank you. TominqueBoVZW SupportFollow us on Twitter at @VZWSupport
Thanks for the reply TominqueBo; I did not reset the device. I did take it
my local Verizon store and was issued a new phone--a refurbished one,
though (:. The service assistant said that my speaker was bad, although the
sound was coming and going at that point, and I didn't notice much
difference in the quality.
I'm going to set up the "new" phone and see what happens. I will say that
it seems as if it's not the speakers--the combination of the "car mode"
suddenly being activated (when I didn't know I had it), the random screen
saver that seemed to come up (almost like it was trying to go into dock
mode), and the intermittent loss of sound seemed to all come on over the
weekend. I checked, and there hadn't been a software update. Just
perplexing.
Thanks again for the reply.

About 3 days ago, I too lost all sound from the speaker.
No ringtone, notifications, alerts, etc.
Read online. Tried 3 factory resets. still no sound.
Headphones work.
Bluetooth works.
I honestly think it is a software issue...because I would have this issue when car mode would come on and all sound would go off. Or certain games would kill the sound.
a phone with no ringer really sucks. Any one find a work around/patch...I have read people have backgraded their software and people have had success. But I couldn't figure out how to do that.
I think it may be a combination of both software and hardware with a hardware malfunction (i.e. the car/dock sensor) causing the phone to think it's in that mode and turning certain things on or off.
I've had the exactly the same problem here as many people on this thread. My phone started going into car and dock mode randomly last week so I did a factory reset yesterday (as suggested by my local Verizon store), which didn't fix anything; it still goes into car and dock mode and now the media sound and ringtones from the back speaker have stopped working. Headphones still work so it's not my settings, front ear-speaker still works during calls. It's odd though, my sister and parents have the same phone (bought at the same time) and they've reported no problems with theirs.
So in conclusion, don't factory reset when you have this problem because apparently you'll end up with more problems than you started out with... Going to see if I can get a replacement today.
I had the same problem. I took the battery out. So far, no issues
Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone
Shutting off the phone, removing the battery, putting it back in, then starting up the phone again did fix the sound issue...until I plugged it in to be charged. Then the sound disappeared once again. Phone still switches to car/dock mode randomly so replacing the battery didn't fix that part. There is clearly something going wrong with the phone.
Having the same problem on my phone... Just started... Has anyone found a fix yet? I dont think I am having the Car Dock problem, but nothing comes from my external speaker.... If I do a factory reset will I lose all my pictures and everything?
Had similar problem; no audio from speaker for Ringtones, Screen Touch, Music or Apps; BUT COULD use speaker for phone calls. This issue is all over all the Android forums.
After reading this thread I essentially tried "all of the above" EXCEPT Factory reset. I didn't want to lose my apps if I didn't have to. I had noticed my phone "randomly" going into Car Dock mode. I had only recently set that up on on Bluetooth settings during some business travel so I could use the rental cars' Bluetooth functions.
So in order:
All better for now. I will try to be better about "ejecting" the device from my laptop when charging on USB cable connected to laptop as per the normal "best practices" for connecting a device to a power source.
Hope this helps.
Hello ProudMommy,I'm sure it's irritating when your phone hasd an issue with the speaker. I'd really like to help with some troubleshooting questions. -Can you use the phone with/without headphones? -Does the speaker work sometimes, or is it all the time? -Has the speaker of the device been exposed to any type of liquid at all? -Do you notice a pattern regarding when this started? Had you downloaded any apps right before this started? My advice would be a factory reset as well. You will not lose your pictures, as they are stored on your memory card. You can even remove the memory card from the phone when completing the reset. I would also recommend that you back up your information to your PC to be on the safe side. Here's a link with all of the info http://bit.ly/yIjsCW Any purchased apps will automatically come back after the reset, and during the process, you will be asked if you want to auto-restore your current apps. If you still have the issue after completing the reset, please place the phone in safe mode http://bit.ly/JEdWYr to see if an app is causing the issue. Please try these steps and post back with your results. Thanks! Christina BVZW SupportFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Thanks for the info, before I saw this, I went to my local Verizon store to see what they said to do, and because I took out the extended warranty and had insurance on the phone, they are sending me a replacement phone free of charge!!! Should be getting the phone Monday, so I am keeping my fingers crossed this doesn't happen again, I really like this phone!!! Thanks for your help, and I will keep your suggestions in mind if I have any problems with my new phone!!!!
My Incredible 2 has ringtone, notifications, alerts, etc. Tried factory reset and firmware update. Still no sound, headphones dont work.
Havent tried bluetooth. Warranty expired so I took it to a local repair shop. Guy said the audio chip was bad but would make a nce paper weight.
Hi, Same problem with my phone. Did the reset, added a new memory card and the ring came back.... for about 4 days. No It does not have a ring again. With all these posts , this is CLEARLY, an issue with this phone.
Please help.
John
I had this issue after the last update. This started over the course of a week. I first noticed that my phone said it was in car mode immediately after the software update. Considering I do not have a docking station, I was confused by this but was able to disable it from car mode.First the alarm volume went, then the next day it was the notifications. A few days later it was the ringer. This morning it was the media volume. If I put in my headphones, I could hear everything. I did a soft reset on my own and a hard reset on my own too (turn the phone off, take out the battery and restart holding the volume button down and ower on button) but nothing seemed to work. I called customer support and it seemed to be a problem with the software update. They had me dial *228 to update the phone. I am guessing that usually the updates run on their own but maybe every now and then they don't. Whatever the case, now my phone works.
This is the first time that I have called customer service with an issue for one of my Androids and the phone DIDN'T need to be replaced. Usually when I call I get the scripted solutions that usually end in getting the phone replaced. This is the second Incredible 2 since December but considering that I was replacing my LG almost monthly, this is great.
I know this may not solve all of your issues but I hope it helps!
Same problem here. Got car mode then started losing notifications, alarm, ringtone. This was after the update. I call VZ support and was told to dial *228 on the phone and EVERYTHING came back.
Why hasn't support on this page suggested this??? Hello, it worked
thanks for the help
I have had this same problem over the last few days. Restarting the phone fixed the problem for only a very short time - it kept returning. My phone kept defaulting to car mode and loading different screens all on its own. It started when I get a new car charger I'm thinking. Anyway, I called *228, and the problem is resolved. I too had loss of notification/ringtone and alarm sound. But it's back now. I love my Incredible 2 as well, so hopefully this repair lasts!
