Hey guys,
I keep hearing about people having trouble with their optical joystick being too sensitive.... well mine is the most opposite you can get from that. The optical joystick does not respond to anything. Can someone help me out here? Is there a App im suppose to install to get the joystick to work? Was I suppose to install something? forgive my Droid Newbness, I just got this phone in the mail the other day.
I realized the joystick didnt work when I was trying to take photo with the camera feature. It kept saying to use the optical joystick to take the photo, however nothing happened when I clicked it. I also can't record videos either.
Help me please! thank you!

just to make sure it's the mouse, and not the camera software.....can you switch your home screens from left to right (or right to left) by sliding your thumb across the mouse? you have 7 home screens and you can switch them by swiping the touch screen, but you should also be able to switch them by swiping the optical mouse (not pushing or clicking the mouse....just gliding your thumb sideways across it).

nope I can not slide between the home screens with the optical mouse/ joystick. Its as if its just a fake button/ sensor. I can't take the photos so therefor the the clicking feature of the optical joystick doesnt work and I cant slide between home screens therefor the optical part doesnt work.

then i'm afraid it's a bad part. you could try a hard reset (you'll lose everything that you've loaded or customized)...but more than likely you will have to take it back and get a new one i don't think the reset will work, but to me it's worth a try before returning it.

wow, this phone is garbage.... I ordered the **bleep** thing like a month ago.... They charge me for freaking overnight shipping, LOL. And then the phone comes in defective. I probably wont see this phone for another month when I turn it in. I bet they wont even overnight ship it again since it will be on their bill.
AND NO, I do not accept a Hard reset as a Solution. How would that fix the "hardware failure"? sigh..... how do you do a "Hard reset"?
-im a little angry right now for blowing my money on this phone.... sorry for the rantage.

no worries....i understand. you wait for a month and you want the thing to work how it's supposed to. like i said, i doubt it would work too, but i suppose it could be the software that's not recognizing the mouse. i'd only try it first because i wouldn't want to wait on the replacement phone. you go to settings-privacy-factory data reset. good luck. i know it blows.....but when you get one that works fine, the phone really is pretty cool! i really believe they rusehed these out to get out in front of ALL the new phones coming this summer. and i still can't believe they underestimated the demand. it shouldn't take a month to get these out to customers, considering this is their current flagship device.

well an update to this in case anyone was interested. I brought my phone in to the Verizon store and showed two employees working the technical support center whats wrong with the phone. They then told me that not only does the optical joystick not work but niether does the menu button! I didnt think that worked on all the screens, lol. They trouble-shot the phone to the best of their abilities and had no ideas except that it might be defective.
They even reset the phone and took the battery out and put it back in. Still no luck. After the order for the new phone went through, I went home and my parents asked me whats going on with the phone? So I told him this "little black button" is suppose to scroll the screen and it doesnt. As I am showing him this, the screen started scrolling. lol. The phone works fine now. I have no idea what fixed it.
If I had to guess whats wrong with the phone I'd say there must be a loose connection to the menu button/ optical joystick. Im planning on swapping to the new phone even though this phone is now working fine, (incase it is a loose connection and I lose those buttons again.)

cool.....glad to hear that at least it's a minor issue, and that you weren't stuck with a completely useless phone while you have to wait (for who knows how long??? lol) for a replacement.
