The 450 minute Select plan includes unlimited messaging and costs $59.99. You'll have to get a data package which will cost $29.99. Total cost: $89.98 plus taxes and surcharges.

Ok - I'll jump in this thread.  What will it be for a family share plan?  I have the 700 minutes, I believe, might be 1400.  We have 250 text (and will this change with a data plan?)  What items are considered/counted against a 250 limit (if that remains unchanged)  SMS, MMS, email, yahoo IM?  If I open up my yahoo email and send an em to someone, does that count?  I saw something about "tether" - what is that and why does it cost more?  Intend to use this DROID to manage my calendar, which currently runs on Outlook 2000.  If that doesn't work, can you sync it with a Google calendar somehow?

Thanks

Wow lots of questions.  The rate plan for voice won't change unless Verizon raises their prices again soon.  You will still need a text messaging plan to text that is not included in the data plan but you can get a select plan that includes it.  On a family plan it is $30 more or you can keep the same 250 texts for $5 each phone or we do 500 plus unlimited mo to mo for $10 each phone.  That includes all text and picture messaging.  It used to include IM but now on droid Im's will go through the data instead of text so it won't count against your 250 messages.  If you e-mail that also will go through data and not messaging.  Tethering costs more because you are pulling more data and more resources than your phones web browsing. The computers web brower pulls a lot more information so that ties up bandwidth on the network and uses a lot of system resources.  Basically it is more expensive to provide it therefor it is more expensive to use it.  It is possible to do if you hack your phone or use a separate app but the market has removed all tethering apps because with it being so system intensive that is a service that is either supported or not by the network and would need to be charged for.  Tethering for Droid is officially coming in Q1 of next year but it will cost 15 bucks extra.  You can probably find and download an app somewhere else to do it but I imagine if you are caught with one of those or it is determined that that is what you are or have been doing then you might find your service terminated because one of the agreements of service is that you won't use a 3rd party app for tethering or a hack to get your phone to do that.  It is a system thing.  You will be able to sync with Outlook calander somehow Probably with exchange server which is supported.  If you aren't a business or buying it through your business as a business account you won't be charged extra for it.  That is my understanding at this point.

Ok - I checked - I have family share basic - 1400 minutes.  The rep told me basically I can add 29.99 to my monthly bill.  She didn't mention anything about the 500 texts with unl.. mob. to mob. calling.  I flipped through the plans on this site and I am not savvy enough to find that option.  Trying to find the cheapest way to go - only two of the lines really send any texts - and occasionally go over if we don't watch it.  She told me I couldn't put unlimited on just one line and told me that to up it on one of the lines (to 500) was actually more expensive.  (maybe on a 'per text' basis - I don't know.)  I do appreciate your help.  I have to put the pen to paper again and do more figuring.

You choose messaging per phone when you buy a phone.  I have played with it.  Basically if you go through the process of buying a phone online it lets you build your package.  It puts together a cart and you can see where all the charges are.  You can wipe the cart when you are done so you don't have to buy it.  Do it like you are setting up a new account though cause doing it as an Upgrade I am not sure how far you can go without committing.  That will tell you a lot about the pricing.  If you have messaging set up on all the phones you have and you have more than 2 then going to the family plan for select or connect or whatever the second tier is for smartphones is the way to go.  500 texts with unlimited mo to mo is 10 bucks 250 with no mo to mo is 5 bucks and unlimited is 15 bucks each phone.  If you get the plan where it is included it is a little cheaper and I think you get more than just the texts as well.  We gotta do the figuring too to figure out how we are going to work an extra 60 bucks in for data.  Already got a few by cutting vz navigator, tweet tweet, back up assistant, and a 10 dollar data plan for feature phones.  I am cutting 25 bucks or more getting an android smart phone which is awesome then adding 60 which isn't but it ends up only being 35 bucks more a month when it is all hashed out.  Then we drop to a lower rate plan we might come out ok.  Whew this gets interesting.
