Droid R2D2 Gingerbread Update?

I've heard through the grapevine that the Droid 2, Droid 2 Global & Droid Pro will be getting an update to Gingerbread.  I have also read the support page for the Droid X showing the benefits it will get from Gingerbread (wife has one).  What about the R2D2 though?  I don't want to be stuck on FroYo until I upgrade since it will be easier for me to help my wife with her issues if I am on Gingerbread when she is.

The original announcement didn't specifically say that the D2 version would be included, so I'm not completely sure.

Technically I can't really see any reason that it couldn't be, but the question is about whether or not there were enough of them sold to justify the testing that it will take to release it.

Well, if there isn't a specific update for the R2D2 I guess I'll just have to use the D2 update, just SBF to the stock D2 then upgrade.  I do love my R2D2 though.

Would it not be more simple to just update as a Droid 2, then push a theme pack to the R2 users that included all of the R2 functionality?

I read on the motorola.com blog that the R2D2 Droid 2 will be getting the 2.3 Gingerbread update soon. The comment came from a moderator on that site, so I would take that as good info!

i spoke with a customer service rep from verizon about it a day or two ago and he said that at the time no gingerbread for the r2d2 but that he couldnt say but changes were coming soon, and i also read the same post from motorola forum mod about getting gingerbread soon.

I just checked....the page with the two links on it, how to perform update, and a descriptive page telling about the features of the update, is still there, or is there again.

what is the build number for it?  I just got the R2D2 yesterday as a replacement phone for my son and I think it was pushed to it.

The build number is 2.3.3 and was already installed on the Droid R2D2 that I received earlier this month so it's probably already on the phone you recently received.
