Search is your friend. If the R2D2 is like the D2G, the following might work:
"When the stock multi-touch keyboard freezes, acts funny, etc. go to:
Menu > Manage apps > All > Multi-Touch keyboard > Clear data [and clear Cache if it's not 0]
Others have found that turning off "Next word prediction" in the Multi-Touch keyboard settings also seems to help prevent keyboard freezes.
Menu > Settings > Language & Keyboard > Multi-Touch keyboard > Next word prediction"

Worked brilliantly for me (my spacebar would cause a force close window with on-screen keyboards and tactile keyboard as well).
I unchecked all the other garbledygook auto-correct nonsense too. Ahhhhh much better!
Thank You, breezex!

My keyboards were also causing numerous problems. If I had to use the space bar it would freeze, if I tried using the touch screen keyboard it wouldn't show the text that was being put in until I tapped the word from the predictive text bar.
I did the following:
"When the stock multi-touch keyboard freezes, acts funny, etc. go to:
Menu > Manage apps > All > Multi-Touch keyboard > Clear data [and clear Cache if it's not 0]
Others have found that turning off "Next word prediction" in the Multi-Touch keyboard settings also seems to help prevent keyboard freezes.
Menu > Settings > Language & Keyboard > Multi-Touch keyboard > Next word prediction"
So far so good! Thanks Breezex!

I am now on my 3rd R2D2 phone because I lost the entire bottom of the screen and then the keyboard kept freezing up. I'm glad I bought the warranty! But alittle disappointed with the problems I keep having. Especially R2D2.

I have the same problem. Since the update my phone has been messed up. I have reset & also turned off Next Word Prediction....it works for a week then starts freezing again. Called Verizon again yesterday--they are finally sending me another phone. I have learned going to Verizon for this problem was a waste of time....call *611 & choose Technical--they know what they are doing all the Verizon store kept doing was resetting my phone & that only fixed the problem for a week. Love the phone but not the hassle the last couple months! Raquel

I'm having the same issue. Loved my Droid b4 the update. Since the update my phone shuts down and restarts by itself several times a day.
In the past 2 wks, the key pad allows me to type 2-6 letters, then it locks up. I can't text or do anything online. I feel like I'm paying $184.00 for nothing. VZ is the most expensive wireless company...you would think you would get good service but you don't. My experience w/ VZ Customer svc was awful and I do not want to deal w/ them. I will not continue w/ their service once my contract is over.

my keyboard was doing some crazy stuff and i couldant figure out why. i just did a hard reset. and now i found this and i could have tried to clear the cache or get rid of the next word prediction first...... im so bummed i lost all my previous texts oh well. i start fresh and new.... again... i had an issue last year with my R2D2 and my girlfriends. where the keyboard has some really funky shortcuts with all the different letters. hers still does it mine doesnt.. its wierd

it doesnt matter how many times you reset your phone or delete this or that or whatever and i couldnt get mine to even boot in safe mode to see if there was a problem behind the scenes. i am on my third R2D2 phone in less than a year and they are sending me a replacement Droid 3 as i type this. i love my R2D2..when it works..but unfortunately that is rare anymore. if you type 3 periods in a row it freezes, opens google, closes google and then opens some other random text and then freezes again, to the point the only option i have is to take the battery out and restart the phone. i have done hard resets, left the memory card out, created a new gmail account and left the phone as it came with no apps downloaded and it still freezes and turns itself off and back on..mind you i always disable the next word prediction and auto caps and all that other crap. it also had a mind of its own within the first week of owning it that it typed whatever random letters in my texts that it deemed necessary. after talking to 5 different people in tech support (2 of them tech 2's, only 1 gave me the callback she promised) i finally was able to get someone to give me (what they consider) an 'upgrade' in the version of the Droid 3..altho my new 'upgraded' phone wont be a collectors item as i consider my R2D2 to be...it sucks because i like my noisy little Droid Star Wars phone. i wanted the Droid 4 but wasnt about to pay the $200 they wanted since i've had 3 phones in less than a year and paid considerable money to get this specialty phone in the first place..all i got was 'we can only send a replacement in a comparable device, which i understand, but i was willing to go halves on the Droid 4..
i'm gonna miss my R2D2 but i'm hopeful they will maybe come out with a Transformers phone sometime in the future!! good luck to all who are holding out hoping for that magic update...i couldnt take the freezing problems anymore!
