Droid Randomly Loses Internet Connection

I have noticed that since I upgraded to version 2.2 my phone would lose its Internet connection almost on a daily basis.  (I get "Page Cannot be displayed" type of errors on my browser and my Gmail indicates lack of network connectivity).

This would happen at different times of the day and with full 3G bars.  It is really annoying since the only fix I have been able to find is to restart the phone.  I did some Googling and noticed that Motorola's Droid X has a similar problem.  I tried to put the phone on airplane mode and then back to see whether that would fix the problem  but instead it made my phone very sluggish.

Has any of you been in this situation?  I bet this is strongly related to the upgrade since the same problem seems to be present in other Android 2.2 devices.

Any thoughts?

I had the same issue before I had to do a master reset. For me it was more than the browser, if I had the scanner or a music site running it would just quit and I would see the up and down arrows under 3G switch on and off then totally off with the 3G icon gone also.(Those are not signal strength indicators)

Here is a link to my headache. My 3G issue  But mine was exasperated by the fact OTA activation would NOT populate my info.  But since the reset, my device is 100% better than before I was forced to do it. I listened to an entire ballgame, and never lost my connection last night and never had to plug the phone into the charger.

As a side note. A full phone signal does not signify a full 3G signal. I use the app Real Signal to see the difference. Once turned on, if you pull down your navigation bar, you see the signal strengths (high, low and current) for each and they are not the same. At least where I live.

My current uptime is 2-1/2 hours and I am still at 92% battery.

Only negative, an app I used alot for checking my battery and memory, and CPU usage and process' is no longer available.

Yes, this has happened to me twice already and it's incredibly annoying (no pun intended)! The last time it happened it was down for a couple hours, and it's currently down right now and has lasted 3 hours already. Is there another way to fix it besides resetting the phone? I haven't tried that yet, and would prefer not to.

Believe me, I preferred not to do so. It will not be as bad as it was for me. But it is worth it. Just make sure you take ANYTHING you want from the phones memory and place it on the SD card, Then Remove the card before doing the master reset.

I have the same problem. Happens at least once a day. Putting into and out of Airplane mode fixes it for a while. I'm not ready to do a full reset yet.

You can try performing a hard reset at which you will want to store your memory on your SD Card before resetting the device.

  • From the home screen, select the applications tab (located in the lower-left).

  • Select Settings.

  • Select SD & phone storage.

  • Select Factory data reset.

  • Select the reset option.
Reset phone
Resets the phone
Reset phone & Internal storage
Resets the phone and the internal storage

  • Select Erase Everything.

I spoke with Verizon Tier II a few days ago, they are advising me that it is a 'known issue' with this model phone..and submitted a "product issues form"..supposidly to submit to the 'product manufacturer' to release a 'software patch' to address the known issue..

to the wireless employee on here -- many people have this issue...and many people HAVE completed a factory reset and the problem still exists... I am on my second phone now that does it, and my boyfriend's phone does it as well...thats 3 PHONES in ONE HOUSE that do this!
This problem needs to be addressed with a software patch and SOON!
