Droid Ringtone Issue

I purchased a ringtone from Verizon for my previous Motorola phone. I transferred the file to my Droid this morning and went through the steps to make it my default ringtone. Everything seemed fine, but the next time I unlocked the screen, the Droid reset itself. When the home screen reappeared, none of the icons worked. I turned the phone off and back on. Same result. I went to Settings (for some reason this icon worked) and changed the default ringtone to one of the preinstalled choices. The phone has worked perfectly since. Just thought I'd post this in case others have had problems after installing a third-party ringtone.

Sweet Home Alabama.
I was thinking "third-party" to the Motorola hardware and Google software. It could be that other Verizon ringtones have not been optimized for Android.
