I have the original Droid and I just received my Froyo 2.2 update, I have tested the WiFi tethering and it works fantastically, but can someone please tell me if it costs cash because I don't want to use it a lot if I got to pay a lot for it. Thanks.

My understanding is that if you use the built-in tethering app that comes with the OTA update your notebook will only go to a Verizon web page to sign up for something like 2 GB of data for a certain fee. (I have not bothered to try it though as I am not interested in paying more for an unlimited data plan I already have). If you used the built-in tethering app with your notebook and DIDN'T get redirected to a sign up page I would be surprised since I have seen several posts about that being how it works. That page should have detailed any fees and limitations.

What do you mean by "wifi tethering"? Are you actually connecting a laptop to the Droid using wifi? Froyo on the droid shouldn't have the hotspot feature.

That's just regular USB tethering, not "wifi tether". Is the droid actually connected to wifi or 3G? Everyone else has mentioned that it takes them to a page to sign up for mobile broadband connect.
