Example- Went into the city over the weekend, pulled out the droid and said,"Watch this!" Turned on "maps", which opened showing my location as being back home and, zap!, turned itself off completely. Not good in a crowd of onlookers. I turned it back on, put it in my pocket and walked a block, pulled it back out and it was off again. This went on for several more tries. Yes, the battery is at a full charge. Yes, I had 4 bars of coverage. No, I have no idea why this contraption tempts me to skip it across san fran bay but, its gonna happen!!!

if you have, you might have a defective battery.

Hello Willanya.Good to see you back!
I would say possibly it too that the battery is defective.Warranty does cover the battery if it is defective. Did you happen to maybe get the phone wet at all?

I've had this happen occasionally with my Droid. No rhyme or reason to it. Can happen with any app. It is frustrating.
I have no solutions for you, just that you're not alone. I see from the other responses that the battery is a likely culprit. I think the next time it happens to me, I'll take it in and get a battery replacement. Probably a good idea for you too.
Good Luck.
p.s. I have tried battery pulls, no joy.

Hi. I am sorry you are having issues with your phone and I can certainly look into it for you. Does the phone only go off when you access the Maps or does it do it with any applications? How often does this happen?
Waiting on you reply
Thanks!

Hi. I am sorry you are having issues with your phone turning off. Are you using a text messaging application or are you using the default messaging application that is on the phone?
Waiting on your reply
Thanks!

It is the default messaging application but it seems like it is working fine now. Just needed some time to work itself out I guess.

I read an article about issues people are having with their Droid phones rebooting randomly and doing a whole bunch of other wacky things. The problem was the SD card. Try taking yours out for a day and see if the phone returns to normal. If it's the card causing all the problems they say it should be replaced with a "higher class" micro SD card whatever that means.

We love community contributions! Do we have any members that have removed the SD card and found the issue corrected?
Thank you!

it might be because if you press on the back cover then let it go or it shakes around to much the battery might come away from the metal things that connect the battery to the phone causing it to shut off.

I am having the same problem. Doesn't matter if I have an app on or off, if it's on/off the charger. Sometimes it will just be sitting there and I'll see the red droid symbol that shows up when you turn it on (at least it turns itself back on lol). But the other day it started turning off in the middle of my phone calls. Thankfully it wasn't an emergency or that would've really been an issue! I also have problems with the screen locking itself. The screen will go black and nonresponsive, to the point I either A) put it back in my purse and come back 5 minutes later and hope it works or B) take out the battery and turn it back on. I thought it may be the battery needed replacing and I have tried 2 different batteris, neither of which have worked. I have also tried a factory reset, which, besides making half of my apps disappear, has done absolutely nothing. It is rather frustrating! I guess a call to tech support is in order! Glad to know I'm not alone!
Although I may try that SD card trick before I call...
