Droid X Battery Life

Hello,

Question for the community of X users.

How long do you get a battery to last and how would you rate your usage during the day?

I ask because I have had mine for less than a month.  Of course the first few weeks I was on it all day long and having to recharge during the day.  This alone seemed to be a bit of a buzz kill, having to recharge during the day.

Since then I have scaled everything back, very little talk time, a few texts and a few emails sent out.  No camera, no video, nothing else..... But my battery barely makes it through the day.  Verizon employee told me to turn off Wi-Fi and that would be a huge difference on the battery life.  Not helping.

So, I will close by saying that it seems worthless to have this device with all of the capabilities turned off just to be able to have it run for an entire day.

Considering the extended battery but hate to have to shell out 60 bucks.

Let me know your best battery life day.  Maybe my battery is a lemon?

Thanks.

It's the 4.3" LCD screen.

It might use upwards of ~90% of the battery life, if left on.

Settings -> Display -> Screen timeout

30 secs or 1 min

Settings -> Battery Manager -> Battery mode

Nighttime saver,  Custom battery saver, Maximum battery saver

Settings -> Applications -> Developement

Stay awake - check box

What will checking the Stay Awake option accomplish?  That would seem to drain the battery while charging up.

Anyone out there using the battery?  Heard that costs 60 bucks.

thanks for all replies.

Don't activate the "Stay Awake" function.  That's just silly and it could prevent you from getting a true 100% charge of 4.23v

It's a something to check if you want to recharge the battery faster.

I use my Droid X to connect to the interent so I like it on while it's connected to the PC.

I've had mine since Sept. 6th.  Like you, I was playing with it a LOT over the 1st week or 2 and draining the battery pretty fast. My experience is that the biggest battery drains are Web browsing (also gets the battery HOT), Video, WiFi & GPS, and various "blur" components that are running all the time (e.g., various widgets like Weather, Mail, Twitter, etc.).

I top the battery on my phone each & every morning (I power it off every night). Then again around 4 PM, whether it's "too low" or not. But typically it's around 60% at 4 PM ...  As far as APPS:  I do NOT have much "blur" going on, and those that ARE on I have updates set to no less than 15 mins (for mail, twitter, facebook)  I also do not leave GPS or WiFi turned on all the time. I have a widget that is on my main screen for activating & deactivating those when I want them on.

So far I'm able to manage the battery ... Yea, it definitely doesn't  last anything like my old LG DARE ... but the DX is a small COMPUTER and does so much more as a SmartPhone...   Also, I chatted with a friend that has an iPhone -- he CONSTANTLY has his phone plugged in when not in use. So I feel good to only have to "top" mine twice a day - and always have a Car Charger in my Car, just in case.

Good luck

I love this phone. It has been very free of problems.

I don't know exactly what makes my battery life so great on my phone.  I've lasted almost 2 days without a recharge.  The best I've ever done was about 15 or 16 hours with 80% battery left.  During this period I had about 2 or 2 1/2 hours of talk time, read maybe 20-40 emails and 20-30 texts + replies.  I also did maybe 20-30mins of web browsing and some app downloads.

Here are some of the settings and setups I use.

HD Rare Black wallpaper

On the News widget I removed all updates except 2 sports.  The stock settings had about 10-15 subscriptions.

Advanced Task Killer, set to Crazy and kills processes when my display turns off.

My display timeout is set for 1 minute, with auto brightness

Battery is set for Performance

GPS is always on

Beautiful widgets clock and weather.  Weather updates every 2 hours.  I have it set for a 100% transparent background and a chrome colored skin.

I don't use Wifi very often so I just leave it disabled.  No need to run the Wifi radio when you aren't using it.

Now with all that said, it's the same thing as a sports car.  If you run it with the pedal to the metal, you're gonna be topping off the fuel often.  If I'm going to do any thing power demanding such as stream video or play a game I plug it in.  I have seen a 10-20% drop in power with just 30 minutes of playing a game.  This is because most games turn your brightness up to 100%.

Wifi also drains my battery fast, so I would make sure to have it plugged in when I want to use it for an extended period of time.

My first cell phone was a Nokia which could only do one thing, make calls and receive calls. There was a game on it which I paid no attention to. No calendar, no wifi, no bluetooth, no camera, no internet. Battery lasted about 2 1/2 days. My last "dumb" phone was an LG Versa. Along with telephoning capabilities, it had a calendar, stopwatch, music player and a camera, with other goodies. Battery lasted about 1 1/2 days.

Now I have both the Droid X and the Droid 2 (R2D2 model). It has everything. I use Bluetooth once in a while, and shut it off when not in use. I use WiFi once in a while and shut it off when not in use. I use both the camera and camcorder on occasion. I have Advanced Task Killer which does a reasonably good job, my brightness is on automatic, time out is 30 seconds. My biggest usage is receiving/sending Email and scanning the WWW. Oh yes, I also use it as a telephone. I normally go for about 8 hours before I charge her up. Considering what the capabilities are and what I am doing with it, I think that 8 hours is fairly decent. By the way, this holds true of both phones. Roughly 8 hours.
