I think this topic is worthy of keeping alive. I HATE that my Droid doesn't know English. Everyone knows that if an "i" is sitting all on its lonesome, it needs to be Capitalized as a proper noun.
Verizon!!!! Please get on MOTO about this!!!!!!!

Ummmm.........wow.
I agree with you on the subject of proper English grammar. The letter "I" should, indeed, be capitalized when standing alone. This wouldn't be a deal breaker for me on a smartphone though. Just slightly annoying, maybe. I wonder if the messaging script in the CPU and memory is just programmed to display exactly what you enter on the keyboard. They want you to hit the Shift button if you want a capital letter. I don't think the script is smart enough to know that you're typing a noun.....and just displays the "i" like its programmed to.
Have you tried the speech recognition yet ? When sending a text message, you can hit the little microphone icon near the spacebar.....say your message...and it will display what you said, as text, in the message box. If you say "My phone is nice and I like it".......does it capitalize the "i" that way....or still show the lowercase version ?

HTC must do this too! On my HTC G1 I have the same thing as you mentioned. Eh, it doesn't really bother me.

When I read this, I thought, "what are they talking about?" I checked again to be sure, and composing within text messaging, gmail, and an exchange email account all correctly capitalize a lone "I" on my DroidX.
Then I remembered that the phone defaulted to the multi-touch keyboard when I first got it, instead of Swype. Testing changing it back to that, I see it does fail to capitalize. It was also a great reminder of how much superior Swype is over other phone keyboards I've used. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a week and see what you think. Settings -- Language & keyboard -- Input Method -- Swype.
It takes a little getting used to, but its predictive abilities are pretty impressive, even for someone with large hands like me. I can fail to drag over letters correctly, and it still figures out what I'm trying to type most of the time. You can always single-click letters like with traditional keyboards too, but I find swyping to be much faster and more accurate. Another thing I didn't realize when first using it is that it will use the first word in the list of guesses it provides you if you just start swyping the next word, which is great because its first guess is usually right when it isn't sure of the word I'm entering.
It's not an excuse for the other keyboard to not capitalize it, but you might find you like swype a lot better.
