I have gotten the DROID X sometime during November of 2010. Once I understood how to use it (very non-technical), which was like a month after I got it, I noticed an issue with the Droid X that happened especially if I didn't use the DROID the whole day.
What happens is:
I go into the dialer, and dial the number I want to call (or go through contacts). The signal is not the issue as I have 3-4/5 bars where I live. Once it says it is dialing the number/contact, I do not hear any rings but the phone sound works... no rings and the phone I am calling does not ring as well.
I try tapping end call and it highlights but does not work. It stays there still saying it is in-call.
When I click the home button, I go to the main home screen and in the notification bar, it is flashing green and says that I have a call going on. In about 30 seconds, the phone randomly turns off, and I have to turn it back on manually.
This usually does not happen more than once a day (sometimes but very rarely 2) and only happens during an attempt to make a call.
In another post, someone had an issue with their phone and when they took it to the store, the store denied all problems but when they asked the customer to check for a small white circle with a red X in it inside the battery compartment, and he found it, they took the phone back.
What could this be? Is it related? what should I do?

Well the sticker test is to verify if the device has been exposed to water, this would effect the phone if phone have but I do not think this is the case... This has been reported by a number of users and it has been believed to have been a software issue. Did you install the latest 2.2.1 update and when you did, did you do a hard rest before installing because I had this issue and was able to resolve with a reset and a number of other users reported this worked for them.
Also take the time to verify with Verizon that there isnt any network issues in your area first...

You need to do a hard reset (Restore Factory Settings). My wife had an issue with calling, the phone would reset after you pressed initiate call(green phone button). Soft reset would solve the issue for about a day, then it would happen again.
Hard reset, and she has been 3 weeks with no issues.
I believe you can find it under Settings->Phone. I don't have my phone right here, so I cannot verify exactly where it is

Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.
1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy
2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone
3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information
4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"
5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.
This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.
