I am hoping to do 2 things with this post. First, to find out if anyone else is having the issues that I am. Second, to generate a REAL response from someone at Verizon about these issues.
I bought my DROID X at the end of July, received it the beginning of August. Since then, I have had nothing but problems.
First, screen issues. The screen will randomly decide that it doesn't want to take any input, and it will start creating its own. I was told twice to factory reset the phone when I called about this, and I was able to garner a refurbished replacement phone on the third call. I replaced the phone, and within 3 days had the same issue. Again I called Verizon, and they told me to do a factory reset again. Every time I call this happens. It is like they don't write down that they had me do this time and time again, and it will not fix the issue. I was told to wait for the 2.2 update. I did, and upgraded as soon as it came available to me. THIS FIXED NOTHING. The phone still does the same thing.
Second, lock ups. The hot spot app seems to do this CONSTANTLY. Every time more than one workstation connects to it, and sometimes when just 1 is connected for more than 10 minutes, the phone will drop the connection. I will try to turn off the hotspot app and turn it back on, instant lockup and restart. Also, the media player does this constantly, and will sometimes skip like crazy until you pull the battery (because the power button does not respond in this state). This has happened in both phones. I have had the phone just randomly restart MANY times, sometimes when trying to answer a call. Verizon's solution? Factory reset. First I thought that this may be the fault of the applications that I download, but I now don't add ANYTHING to the phone for fear that it might further destabilize my already fragile phone. The lockups have seemed to get more frequent after the 2.2 update.
Third, charging. I have a Motorola branded micro USB charger, and I can only get it to work if I wrap the cord around the unit so that the plug is leveraged up. This has happened with both phones. Admittedly, I don't have as many issues if I use the micro USB that came with the phone, but I still do wake up every once in a while with a dead phone.
Fourth, data connections. I live in a place that has GREAT service with Verizon. Most of the places I go have really good coverage. However, the phone fails to sync gmail all the time until I do it manually. The odd thing is, it works fine for about 4 days after I first set it up. Gmail is not as much of an issue as the exchange sync though, as exchange supplies me with all of my business contacts, calendars and email. There has been several times that I have just had to restart the unit in order for it to start synchronizing again. Also, many times I will have to send text messages again and again in order for them to get through. I will get a text message failed, or nationwide access not available message when this happens. I am well aware of service limitations, and understand that you can't get service where there is none to be had. But all of these occur when I am in 50 percent or over signal areas, with full 3G showing on the screen. This also affects all of my other data connections at times, I will not be able to load any web pages or start the Hotspot app when this happens.
In summary, I love this phone. I want it to work SO bad. I have since picked up an iPhone and had a hard time seeing how I even used such a tiny screen. But, I need it to work reliably. The real oddity here is that I know 2 people with Droid X's that don't have these issues.
Please post your frustrations, I would love to hear that I am not the only one that has been unlucky with this phone.

Hey Bro,
Hate to say this - and I only do because I had the same problem with another vendor - but it sounds to me like Verizon returned you your original bad device. They may have received it, tested it, and determined that there was nothing wrong then sent it back. I am in the telecommunications business so I find it very hard to believe - but not an impossibility - that you have the exact same failures with two different devices.
Do we have input from Verizon Tech here? What say you?

This would be very hard to have happen because when dealing with the insurance company they send you a replacement device first and then you send your old device back to the company after transferring service and information. So the chance of the same device being given to the same user would in fact be impossible..

Say what you will my good man, but I have learned in the age of advanced electronics and digital technology that NOTHING is impossible.

True, True, but if you can get the same replacement device as a replacement for a damaged device that you still have when the replacement device is sent to you .... It would be a real Twilight Zone Moment

PARADOX!!
no, really though. They sent me a device before I sent mine back. It was a refurb unit, so I theorize that the unit I got had the same issues. Maybe because they were both first wave devices. I have talked to both of my friends that own the phone, they did not get theirs at launch.

I'm sure that the Insurance company or VZW would use a time machine for much better things than returning you your own device a day before you mail it in. The electricity costs would be so great using a time machine that they could just send you a case of brand new replacement phones. As such I conclude that it would not be cost effective to use said time machine for such a venture.

Sounds like a software issue to me, what app do you have installed? This may be why the techs are instructng for a hard reset, also did you try hard resetting with the Auto Restore turned off as instructed in my post here: http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/m-p/29658...

I am confused, isnt the Motorola charger the one that came with the phone? From what I'm understanding from your post is you are having issue with a diffrent one besides the one that came with phone? If this is correct I would say the issue is in the charger not the phones, I do not see more than one device having the same exact issue if there isnt a common factor.... The Charger,
another thing I was wondering if you are using the wall charger or charging from a pc usb?
Fourth, data connections. I live in a place that has GREAT service with Verizon. Most of the places I go have really good coverage. I noticed a simular issue with my device but I traced it down to the power management setting causing the issue, Maximium Battery Saver and Nightime Saver both have a feature that will disconnect data connection from time to time to save power, after testing a number of custom settings I was able to resolve this issue.
In summary, I love this phone. I want it to work SO bad. I have since picked up an iPhone and had a hard time seeing how I even used such a tiny screen. But, I need it to work reliably. The real oddity here is that I know 2 people with Droid X's that don't have these issues.

I am not saying you are the only one, but I havent had any issue I could not resolve on my device, I have learned that the larges amount of issues was usually related to a incompatible app..
Hope this helps you trouble shoot your device some...

Thank you for the advice on the reset without restore. I will try this today to attempt to fix issues. As far as apps go, nothing beyond what comes with the phone is currently installed. I haven't installed any others since I got the replacement because I wanted to see for sure if it was apps causing the issues.
Yes, I am having issues with a charger that did not come with the phone. But, I am also having issues with the charger that came with the phone as well. Charging off the supplied wall charger.
Changing power managment settings now, that seems reasonable. Thank you.
I will test the phone for a time, and report back. Thank you for your help. I am sad that verizon themselves could not be as helpful.

Glad to hear you are trying to resolve your issues rather than just giving up. Some good tips were given to you and they have proven to resolve issues over and over again.
As for VZW not being more helpful; I think sometimes we put a little more expectations on VZW tech support. Most of the techs have only used the phone a couple of times, and most of their info comes from what their computer screen tells them to do. Honestly in the case of newer smartphones like this, there just isn't enough hours in a day for the employees to learn every nuance of every phone that VZW supports. That's why forums like this and others are so popular, you have a wide range of people of all skill sets who actually spend loads of time with the devices.

This may not solve everyone's lockup issues, but it solved mine. I have around 90 apps added to my phone and I'm using over 10 GB of space on my SD card, so I don't imagine a lot of people have a worse case than I have. I hope this helps! Good luck!
I have been having trouble with my Droid locking up for a couple of months now and it kept getting worse until I was having to reboot it 4 - 6 times per day. Besides the lockups, it also seemed to work very SLOW with almost everything I used. I was desperate to try anything, so I had decided to do a factory default and start over.
The day before I was going to do that, I FINALLY found out what the problem had been all along. I had taken a picture and it locked up. When I rebooted, it came up with a "SD card is damaged" message and could not mount the card. I tried rebooting several times.
I put the SD card into my computer and it could not read it also and said that I needed to format it. I took it out and re-inserted it several times until it finally recognized it and allowed me to access it. I immediately copied everything on the card to a folder on my computer. I then put in a new SD card (same brand and size) and copied everything in the folder to the new card. Then I put the new card into my Droid.
It has ran much faster and the best since I had my phone with zero lockups or reboots, and I haven't even turned it off in weeks. I'm loving it now. It was all because of a defective SD memory card, or at least some bad sectors on it.

This is a long shot, but maybe the devices you are using with the hotspot are the issue. I went through 2 replacement phones before realizing my router was making my phone reboot. Anything is possible.
As for issues with my X:
It was a great phone Aug-Dec, when that update and a router issue made it reboot almost once a minute. New router resolved that.
It was a great phone Dec-May (or whenever it was), when GB made it a buggy, glitchy phone.
Display: Sometimes does not time out. Stays on until I shut it off. Not often. About three times a week. Not a good thing for obvious battery concerns.
Display: After being off for at least 30 minutes, when I press the Power button and turn the display on, the Homescreen appears, by-passing the slide-lock and PIN number lock, i.e., the phone didn't lock. I keep it on a two minute lockout. This happens, also intermittently.
Browser: Crashes. Has to be restarted.
Camera: 9 times out of 10, pressing the Camera icon does nothing. I have to reboot the phone, then the Camera will work.
Video recorded with Camcorder: About 1 out of 5 videos, when I try to open them, say "Corrupted File" and they won't open. These files also sometimes lock up the Gallery until they are deleted.
Video recorded with Camcorder: Sometimes, after recording a video, I go to open the file and there is not a file there. Gone. Missing.
Homescreen transitions: Are very choppy now, weren't before GB, but I do use a live wallpaper. Blame it on the wallpaper? No, I blame it on GB and I'm keeping the bleeping live wallpaper.
Homescreen transitions: I keep the center of my Homescreens free of icons and use that area to swipe the screens left or right with my finger. So, how can that make the Voice Command, Voice Mail, even Text Messaging apps open when I am switching left or right between Homescreens?
Keyboard/Swype: Totally and completely erratic after the update. Cursor has a mind of it's own.
Battery: Before GB, I rarely ever charged my phone during the day. Now, I am often at 60%, or less, by 11A.M. and into the 40's by 1 P.M. if I don't charge it. Nothing changed, only GB.
Astro File Manager: Yes, this is an app, but it never did this before GB. It takes Astro 15-20 seconds to open now and when opening folders, another 15-20 seconds.
Folder Organizer: Another app. Sometimes takes three or four presses to open folders. Again, never an issue before GB.
Reboots: A few after the update. Before that, not one after replacing my router in Dec.
Lock-ups: At least a dozen the past month. Battery pull required.
I've done a reset, without restore, formatted my SD card and installed fresh apps after GB. Did NOT, have NOT tried the Safe Mode method because a lot of these are nuisance issues and intermittent.
Have not tried the reset without installing ANY apps.
These are just nuisance issues that make me an unpleasant Community Member, but I was never the life of the party before. As I've written before, I'm tired of troubleshooting. Seriously.
If anyone has any ideas, I will read them, might not act on them. Not really looking for suggestions, anymore. Just wanted to list my issues caused by GB.

When I got this X2, I inserted the SD card from my first X that bought a little over a year ago. And, of course, it had lots of stuff accumulated over that year (but not full, maybe half...).
My X2, which I bought in June, was twitchy from day 1. Nothing terribly serious, and nothing consistent. I decided to restore the phone and reformat the SD card. Now it does seem to work faster, smoother, and more consistent (except fir an out-of-the-blue reboot this morning.
That is another long shot of an idea, though.

Isn't getting an X2 a lot like marrying your "ex" a second time? Sorry, had to say that. I know, a lot of people are getting them as replacements and didn't have a choice.

I've gone for over 3 weeks now without a single lockup, reboot, or power cycle since I changed SD cards in my phone. That's down from at least 4-6 times per day at the worst before I changed it. It had started out maybe once every 4 or 5 days. Now it works flawlessly and at least twice as fast as it was. It is like having a brand new phone. I'm loving my Droid 2 Global now!
I was ready to factory default mine or try to get a replacement. It's worth a shot for anyone who is having these kinds of issues.

Hello Jessikamay,
I can certainly troubleshoot the concerns you have with your phone as I understand the frustration it has caused you. What happens to the keyboard that doesn't allow you to text? Is this only while messaging or using keyboard in all apps? I would like to review the options you have to find a resolution.
