Droid X GPS is HORRIBLE!!!

What's the deal with the GPS on the Droid X? The map is always off and after a few minutes it might find the right location. You have to make sure all the GPS settings are checked and you have to constantly mess with the settings to get it to work. Its slow to recognize the satellite.

I moved to the Droid from an Iphone a month ago because I hated ATT. I wanted to use my phone as a phone and not just an ipod. Motorola or Verizon needs to learn from the iphone to get the GPS technology right. All I had to do with the iphone was start the map app and "poof" .. It worked! Amazing! I didn't have to go into settings all the time, kill apps, wireless on or wireless off...blah blah, blah. My $300 "smartphone" just worked. The Droid X is a joke with the way its GPS works. Heck, iphone usually worked indoors unless you were in a basement or lead painted room. I love the suggestions... Make sure your outside, check all the settings, download GPS status, make sure wireless is on, kill all your apps first, pull the battery. How about it just works like an apple.

I never have any issues with the GPS. From the sounds of things you should just take VZW up on the 30 day return policy and go back to your Iphone.

On the Iphone you have to turn wifi on and off as well so your statement there is mute. My GPS is set for On-demand with AGPS as well. So my GPS turns on when it's needed and I pull a location within 2-3 seconds. I can understand how options can be confusing after you have been with a phone where everything is spoon fed.

My GPS works like a charm btw.

I do turn gps and wireless on/off as I need them for battery life.

You have got to be kidding me. I use he DX for navigation when needed and geocaching. For navigation I think its as good if not better than my Garmin Nuvi. Haven't used the Nuvi since buying the DX. As for geocaching , there is no substitute for a good handheld gps. Only because they are more rugged and waterproof. Accuracy wise. I'd say a draw with my Garmin Oregon. Usually with a foot or two apart when I hit the cache sight. I've cached with a guy using an I phone a while back, it worked but I usually had the cache in hand before he was even near the cache sight. There are a couple young guys using Iphones to place caches. What a freakin joke. The coords are usually 40-60 feet off. Not just for me for everyone who seeks them with a real gps. No gripes here about the DX gps. :smileyhappy:

Honestly I have to say that your initial post is hard to read as being anything but a rant or troll. If you are looking for help with your phone you should list your problems and ask if someone can assist you. It sounds like you just have your GPS set wrong or an app is interfering with it. Sure GPS takes a while to sync your location. If you had AGPS enabled it would give you a location within seconds, then it would increase accuracy as the satellites sync'd.

This is exactly how I have my GPS settings set: Use GPS Satellites: Checked. Enable Assisted GPS: Checked. Your phone will only activate the GPS radio when something requests location.

I love the gps on this phone. Yea, it takes like 5 secs. to initialize. But it is very accurate to like 10 feet.

I've been keeping up with this thread at work and - as a new Droid X user - I wanted to see how the GPS worked for me on the way home tonight. It was ... GREAT!! Accurate to about five feet! All I did was click on "Navigation" and in about five seconds I was ready to go.

Keep in mind that going to a new OS, there is a tendency to be overly critical in the comparison. I gave up my BB Storm five days ago, and I still catch myself thinking "My Storm could do this..." or "I wish the Droid X could do ... like my BB did." However, my thoughts are turning more to "Wow! This is cool. My Storm couldn't do this..." or "This is much better than my BB." I'm still not 100% satisfied with the Droid X, but I don't think there is any smartphone that is completely fault-free. Keep exploring all the Droid X has to offer, and you'll see that you can customize it to meet your specific needs.

I've used the X GPS a lot lately, more than I ever thought I'd ever user a GPS of any kind. It worked great, EXCEPT...

Once when I lost the data service in a really remote area, the GPS stopped tracking me. That's when I realized that the phone's GPS needs the data service to correlate with the maps.

There is an app from a German group (sorry, forgot the name) that is a full-blown GPS, loading maps to the SD card. It costs around 40 or 50 dollars, if your life depends on 100% GPS (thankfully, mine does not). This goes along the lines of, if your life depends on a full-time camera...get a 100% camera.... :smileyhappy:
