Droid X Gingerbread Fiasco

Is there any word on the fix for Gingerbread (the update that was forced onto us in late May)? My phone has been a piece of garbage since 5/27/11, and I am getting sick of the rhetoric. Please help!

I thought I saw that you posted in another thread about the "fix" update coming .. Maybe I was wrong..  Anyway, your frustration is shared by many - and welcome to the forum.

Verizon commented on a Fix Update to GB coming "soon"

Yes I did, sorry. Just trying to raise some awareness on the issues that have been brought up on the Motorola Owner's Forums. No help or response from anyone there at all!

I don't believe the rep said a fix was coming. She just said a target date.:smileymad:

Thanks,

Rick

GB wasn't pushed out until the first week of June, it sounds like you were in the SOAK test group, which means you signed up for it. For the rest of us who got it in June, it wasn't forced on us.

Sorry, couldn't find a way to correct grammar in my last post!

Really? Not forced on you? You are a little nieve!

As for the soak test, you are right. However, we were misled that our input would matter. ALL of the issues that are now on the table were brought up during the soak test. They did not listen, nor apparently care. Head over to the Moto owners forum for further info.

Naive, you mean?
It wasn't forced on me. I had to go FIND it to get it on mine - and I waited weeks to decide if I wanted to or not - never got any reminders, pop-ups, anything. It just stayed in my updates section on my phone until I went and looked for it.

Feel better? Yeah, that's what you got out of my post. The need to correct my spelling. Good one!

You can believe what you want, but it was not a choice.

Isn't the update section your reminder? How do you know it just sat in your update section? If you truly waited for weeks, you did not do enough research, because you never would have agreed to the update had you seen all the negativity out there regarding it. At least I never would have.

The fact that VZW won't respond to this post should be an indication that they don't want to engage in this topic.

Thanks to the Community for all the feedback!

buffalo4747,

I do understand your frustrations concerning the issues you are having with your Droid X!  Our product development team is aware of the issue and are working on a permanent fix, hopefully soon!  They have suggested, as a workaround, to have the device software flashed.  This can be done at one of our corporate stores.

Again, thank you for your patience and for choosing Verizon Wireless!

what does that mean "to have the device software flashed"?

It means they will put the original software back on it that it was shipped with when it was released (or soon after).

Are you saying that a corporate store can reflash a phone back to FroYo?  Cuz that's what was on my phone when I got it.

Hi B33,

Flashing the device will not make it revert back to the previous operating system. When they flash the device, they would put the most current operating system back on the device. Also, to help resolve the current issues, there's a new software update that was released earlier this week for the Droid X. Here's a link for information on how obtain the newest software update.

The update is a waste if time. I have the same issues now that I did before this non-miracle event. Just smoke and mirrors. How can Moto do this and how can VZW approve it? My 9 year old could not have done any worse!

I just received another update yesterday here. Wife and I got a message stating a update was available in my area. Seems OK so far, but also just reset both phones. Which kinda erked me! They made me do a hard reset on both phones. Week later get an update.

First time on. Not 100% sure what your discussing. I have issues. Most recent one started yesterday. When texting, the keyboard freezes up and then does strange things. Tried the #228 as they suggest to do monthly, but its recording says it can't be done & to try later. I don't know. I really don't want to call support because it requires so much time usually ending without resolution. Very frustrating.

Jan try this hit you menu key > settings > applications > manage applications > Select all then scroll down to Multitouch keyboard

Clear the cache / Clear Data then close with your home button shut the phone down an then repower it up an see if this helps if not .

try this as your next step. let me know what  worked for ya

Wiping cache partition -  cures many ills and is better to start with this than a (gulp) full Factory Reset.

  • Power off
  • Power On Holding Home Key
  • When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
  • Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
  • Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

Hi Janharris56,

To correct the keyboard issues you are having, I would recommend checking the Android Market for a free keyboard application. Simply use the keyword "Keyboard" and you will find many applications so you can personalize your keyboard and correct the issue.

Please post back with your results, as we want to make sure that your issue is resolved.

Thank you!
