How do I turn this feature off? I don't want my little light to blink green every time I have text/missed call/voice mail... I have looked around would love to keep the notification in the bar but not have the flash... any possibilities for that?

I am sorry to inform you there is no way to turn the light off with the stock application other than to turn notifications off, but then you wont even get a ring or vibrate. There are other application out there that let you modify how you get notified and the colors. The colors are even broken down to the contact level. So if you want you Moms text to blink pink and your dads blue you can.
The application is called hadcent and it is an A+ app and everyone should have it.

Place a small piece of black tape over the lights hole.
Try Blink (https://market.android.com/details?id=imoblife.blink&feature=search_result), it isn't exactly made for this but it may have this option to disable light as well, if not you can try to pick a color that isn't noticeable on device and see if that helps.
